That is unusual, particularly since Northampton is a passenger pick-up in the morning. There must be engineering works on the Northampton loop in the evening. Northampton passengers change at Rugby or MKC on the return, depending which bit's closed?

For those who may be interested, here are the movements at Chester:
    5Z64 1332 Chester - Chester: https://www.opentraintimes.com/schedule/U91030/2020-11-21
    5Z65 1637 Chester - Chester: https://www.opentraintimes.com/schedule/U91031/2020-11-21

For reference: the times are different to those published (in RTT etc.) back in March for the train that was cancelled due to Covid. These had an arrival time into Chester of 12:04 (from a similar Euston departure time) and leaving Chester at 16:12 with a return to Euston at 21:49. I do not know the reason for the difference to the Outward journey save for the March times had a dwell time of 25 minutes at Rugby Platform 1 (crew change indicated - and for water?) and then next stopping at Nuneaton at 09:20.

I hope it will be a good day out for those travelling (not myself on this occasion) especially using the Up Main between Rugby and Hanslope Junction on the return.

An interesting day but six and a half hours to get to Chester is quite a time. When I last went to Chester from London we did it in under six hours and that included going all around London from Victoria.

Looking at the timings an hour and three quarters of that is taken up with watering at Rugby and Stafford.

Does Tornado really need two water stops for that journey? Seems surprising.

It may be what happens at London before Tornado gets home that tips the balance on water.

Well that's sad, Recreational travel is banned for November so no Cheshireman on 21/11 (or 14/11 for that matter).

Presumably the 1 December Belmond Surrey trip with 60163 is off, although it's not shown as cancelled on the Railway Herald page, whereas all the other steam trips are shown thus?

According to the Belmond site the only steam trip in December is on 12th December and that's not with Tornado.

Thanks. I thought it very unlikely that the 1st's run would happen - an oversight on RH I assume.

I see that the rescheduled Cheshireman with the Duchess does not now return down the WCML from Rugby, thereby removing what would have been quite a rare bit of track.

Correct, doing York to Edinburgh and return, whether that survives is anyone's guess....

    Just to be pedantic... :)
The 20 March 2021 'Cheshireman' is a redate of the one that didn't run back in March this year.

Email from RTC on 29th May:
"The Cheshireman Saturday 21st March 2020

We are writing with an update surrounding your postponed booking on The Cheshireman, which was due to run on Saturday 21st March 2020.

Firstly we would like to thank you for your patience during this time, your continued commitment and support to us as we have navigated our way through has been incredible.

As you know we postponed the tour due to the Covid-19 pandemic our original hope was that we would be able to reschedule the tour for the Autumn. However, with the situation still on going and recommendations changing daily we have decided to be patient and continue monitoring the process.

With this in mind we are looking further afield to when we will have more certainty and have dated your tour to now run on Saturday 20th March 2021. We have automatically transferred your booking over to the revised date to ensure that your seats are held.
    "

    Fingers crossed and all that!
