Still striking nonetheless. How busy was the yard? As that's one of the best spots to capture the locos pass.

Lots of activity early but most locos are out now. Only Thomas (ugh!) left in the yard

Yes, a great first shot of the gala. Jubilees are handsome engines, even when painted in Swindon camoflage green ;-)
No need to make excuses. The best camera is the one you have with you when you see a picture ;-)

Well one round trip in and it is safe to say that the railway are doing every possible to make the event work. The announcements are clear as to which train you can or can't use and the trains and platforms are not hugely full.

Just a shame about the lineside photographers at the foot crossing between Alresford and Ropley all congregated around the little gated area, it's amazing that not a single one of them can count to six.....

Are they allowing people on the platforms to photo/film even if they are not travelling on the trains? (Obviously with a gala ticket)

She looks fantastic! Can't remember the last time I saw Bahamas – it was in the exhibition shed at KWVR some years ago, and she didn't look like that.

I was a bit wary of how this might go given the necessary restrictions but asking people who visited us how their day was going the most frequent comment was how well organised it was.
I don’t think many people understand the financial commitment involved in putting on this sort of event, bringing Bahamas down wasn’t cheap. With the risk of a lockdown in the background there was a considerable financial risk, so 10/10 to the Mid Hants for doing it and doing it very well.

If you have a gala ticket, you can get off and stay at any of the stations.
But access to the stations is by gala ticket only - and none are being sold on the day (that's according to the web site - this is all stated on the gala page).

I agree John a very bold move and hats off to those that have made it happen. Really need to fix a date up with 45596, it’s a cracker.
Might have to do the old ‘fancy a Bahamas trip?’ to the missus, then disappoint her as we head to Yorkshire ;):p

Is that four spoked wheels on the tender and two solid? Or just an optical illusion.

My first gala of the year, probably for many others too. What a stunning loco Bahamas is, well done to the MHR for inviting her and the BLS support team for attending.

As a fan of the Somerset and & Dorset railway it was really good to see 7F 53808 climbing the Alps with southern green stock.

An excellent gala on Friday with stunning weather until lunchtime. If you're thinking of attending over the weekend do so, you won't regret it.

If photographers and videographers at the event could kindly make a donation to the railway it would be greatly appreciated (as I found at M4M). <BJ>

Absolutely superb day. As people know, I was rather sceptical on here about the whole concept, but I have to say it was brilliantly organised. Bahamas is in stunning condition, and the "supporting cast" were all looking good too. I spent much of this afternoon just watching the constant goings-on at Ropley. Very clever timetable - not only from the passenger train perspective, but also the way the goods trains were handled at Ropley, with the blue Hunslet adding to the theatre. Huge thanks to everyone involved, it's a great way of recharging the batteries ahead of what could be a challenging winter.
