Ouch. I get into trouble when I suggest that the villages of Dunholme and Welton should, now that there’s no visible boundary be renamed either Ryland (the former hamlet at the join), or Dunwelton.

I guess any merger twist WSRA and WSSRT might be called WSS&RT. That sounds better than WSRAST. ;)

  6. Fascinating how the incidence of WSR Operations discussion has greatly increased since Operations was removed from this thread title.

The s.303 CA 'request' was a very good and sensible move today. And 'hey presto' the WSSRT new AGM date has been announced within hours, and the lifting on the ban on new members joining.

The s.303 'request' was inevitable. I wonder whether the current WSSRT board saw this coming?

In the process the current WSSRT board have brought shame and indignation upon their machinations.

The current WSSRT board preempted the issuing paperwork timescale that showed it as inept at one level to convene the original date of this year's AGM, then suspended the democratic process of a Charity subsequently. They think they have a 50 year lease dating back to January 2017, but it isn't.

They have shown of late a substantial degree of incompetence.

Let's not forget the SDRT have had a vibrant museum at Washford for many years including the yard etc and a whole station building and the signal boxes. It has a fantastic loco that now appears to have been run for free for the WSR and used intensively. The SDRT has made a far greater contribution to the WSR than the WSSRT has ever done, and also has a far greater membership (and can cope easily with lots of new members without wanting a 'pause' as with the WSSRT).

Apart from other issues, there must be some valid question marks as to how the current WSSRT board has discharged it's functions as a charity.

Have you now come round to John Bailey's line of thinking that the S&DT lease and WSSRT lease are both invalid then? I thought the rationale was that they were very similar, so either both were or neither were. Or have I got lost somewhere along the way?

    Hi Alex,

The SDRT can take advantage of 'estoppel' because the Notice to Quit quotes and relies upon the new 50 year lease of 2018 if there are technical defects with that lease. The SDRT can also rely on an equitable lease based on Walsh v Lonsdale (1880). The SDRT had a number of previous leases. At the very least the SDRT is 'holding over' under the 1991 lease. (None of the above points are considered by John Bailey in the redacted sections of his report of May this year).

The WSSRT is in quite a different position so far as I understand as it has never had a properly executed lease for the museum at Bishops Lydeard or Blue Anchor, or for anywhere else.

Let's not forget that for the Gauge Museum in the old goods shed at Bishops Lydeard the WSSRT pays the WSR plc £500 plus RPI since January 2017. The amount for Blue Anchor is markedly less... and given that they haven't yet provided a GWR coach in service that the WSR plc can use, yet the SDRT has provided it's loco to haul trains, plus a lot more else, who one might ask has done more to contribute to the WSR?

I am reluctant to quote the 'cuckoo in the nest', but to me it has certainly has not been the SDRT!

I like the old Gauge Museum at Bishops Lydeard, and I would like to see progress with the GWR carriages. However, I see more progress with a model railway layout display!

    Lost the plot?

@jma1009 is there a point to your recent series of posts? They seem to be going over old ground and trying to provoke reactions from either John Bailey, WSSRT supporters or plc supporters.
    Please stop.

Isn't "Dunholme cum Welton" the standard Lincolnshire way of naming such combinations?

It will be a long time before development threatens to coalesce Stogumber and Crowcombe villages. We residents of the Kingswood valley in between might have a thing or two to say about that!

Regardless of what the issue is, the best way of avoiding a question being repeated is to answer it.

At least we now know that the new AGM date and the resumption of acceptance of membership applications wasn't a result of a Damascene conversion, not that many probably thought it was, although I'd agree it could have been phrased in a better way. We don't want to be taking our tone from the latest press releases by the WSSRT.
