While we are on this diversion:

Barnstaple - Ilfracombe in 1898, filmed from the front of a loco. The first sequence runs from just before the Taw bridge, across the bridge, past Barnstaple Quay station, through Barnstaple Town (with - hey! back on topic alert! the L&B station under construction) and over the Pottington swing bridge to the trailing connection to Rolles Quay. The second segment is a section of the 1 in 36 downhill towards Ilfracombe through Slade Tunnel. The last section shows the entrance into Ilfracombe itself, in its pre-rebuilt form.

I think I can tell the difference between a GW 63XX and a BR 63XX...

Ah, just got me Jowet’s out. I assumed, wrongly, that the GWR continued straight ahead to Town. Rather than heading south over the river via Junction first.

Strangely silent from N Devon. The L & B website offers nothing since August. It would be good to know if the passenger numbers are holding up and that the BF station purchase is still proceeding according to plan.

I think you will find some stuff on their FB site, but then not every one uses that.....

I am sure people have commented, on the NP WSR thread in particular, that the L&B is quite busy.

Yes I did, was at the L&B twice two weeks ago, both were as busy as a normal running day when I visited.

Good to see that the L & B have been awarded a grant of £79,300 from one of the C - 19 recovery funds. That, together with the other donations, will see them through to Spring next year according to their website.

I spent an hour yesterday following the links to the application for planning permission for the L & B extension. The Environmental Statement is a really detailed document, right down to Bats and Climate Change coal use! No wonder it takes so long and will cost so much.
There is also a detailed, very considered, reply to the latest objection.....

Sorry.... I don't know how to link but I googled "Exmoor National Park" then followed the planning link and searched L & B extension. This has a reference no 62/50/20/004. Then there are lots of documents listed...9th Sept 2020 is the letter.

Ah yes, I did find that one, but there seems to have been a reply back from the objector's solicitor since then which has yet to have a response from the L&BR - or else I could not find it.

From practical experience on another heritage railway, compared to Bats the reported presence of Dormice and Great Crested Newts cause greater problems and expense.

Here is a link to the planning application:-

The letters referred to make interesting reading. I was amazed at the suggestions about alternative charities for donations from supporters! I wonder why the owners of Court Place Farm object so strongly to the reinstatement of the railway and have refused a meeting. I just wonder why there are so many objections to a planning application which is just a modification to one that has already been passed.

Without CP powers the extension ain't going nowhere! Let's hope they ask for them in the Transport & Works Order

I see what you mean. Still waiting...
It might actually be quicker to travel down to Devon and look at the originals :)
