A lesson from the WSR is that the breaking of eggs does not necessarily result in an omelette.

Ref the "Living Museum" event, there are plenty of good photos on Steve Edge's web-site. There are also photos of volunteers weeding the 20-mile route by hand. Whatever views may be held about the WSR leadership regime, one has to salute the dedication and hard graft of the workers.

Yes I appreciate that and am grateful I might add but there are two postings for which I have received notifications but there is no trace here - have they been removed then?

I've had a couple of 'old' ones from several days ago suddenly pop up in my Inbox again as well - must be an internet 'quirk' !

There was a notification about a relatively old post - I think that sometimes happens if a post is hidden by the mods but then re-instated, you get an alert about "new" activity but it refers to something (in this case) about a week old.

Something similar happened to me. This is a good opportunity to say that there is something amiss with the times of various postings given by N.P. which may be linked.

I think it was just a glitch as I had a notification of a new post which was actually a week ago. I can see from the moderator section we have moved some posts about so maybe what’s happened is as Tom said although cannot recall it happening before.

That would make sense of a “new” notification related to a post I made a couple of weeks ago. It’s worth note that it was on matters Somerset related, so I can easily imagine the moderators were busy...

I think we should all acknowledge that we have biases, on this thread above all others. The challenge - and it is one for me as much as anyone - is to allow them to inform but not dictate our posts.

    Don't shoot me but :

Train - a set of wagons or coaches pulled by a locomotive.

So at MD we had two locomotives in steam, one sometimes pulling a small goods train and one doing turntable demo's (which was not a train).

Busy?..... yes. Trying to keep the thread street legal?..... yes.

On notifications, there are/were a number of posts that were hidden (unapproved) because of suspect content plus some posts that were fine but related to the offending ones and so had no value any more.

Eventually many were all moved to a bin - i.e. they remained hidden to members but had been placed somewhere else. We sometimes keep what people say when at a later date we may need to deal with individuals. (Yes, we have a black book)

Chances are that you may get a message to say a post is 'new' when actually it is just somewhere else but still hidden.

Hope that explains what may be happening. Sorry to deal with admin stuff in public but it might help everyone.

Openness, Honesty and Integrity... The three cornerstones that any description of good governance will quote....

Now we've got all that on here, can you think of anywhere else that might need some... ? ;)

On the face of it, that seems like an extremely suitable appointment. Fingers crossed. It would perhaps be helpful if it was outlined exactly what his responsibilities will be, as his list of skills covers quite a wide range! And on a personal note, on my railway I'm always happy that our directors all also do "on the ground" volunteering work - at the moment half of our board seem to be TTIs! Others are to be seen at the buffet counter or on the footplate. I just think it helps prevent any sense of "directors in their ivory towers" justified or not. I well remember one volunteer pontificating in mess room about directors in their ivory towers, only for me to point out that one of them was sat right next to him caked in bogie grease!
But hopefully, this is good news for the WSR and he can do some good there. I await the conspiracy theorists with trepidation...
