Some places which have been running services since mid-July have found that there is no shortage of business to be had. With a need to pre-book, visitors in effect have to travel when there is space rather than just turn up which has the effect of spreading demand more evenly across services. It is too early to draw too many conclusions yet but I suspect in some instances there will be regrets that more enterprise was not shown.

Maybe the crews of the steam and diesel locos at last week-ends event are able to maintain their competence or whatever?

    Two observations .

1 I am a member of the SVR groups both the unofficial one and the staff and volunteers . Completely different atmosphere to the WSR . inclusive, supportive, engaging , we all feel that we are part of the railway. The GM is posting , commenting , thanking

2 I travelled today on the SVR trial trains . What a truly brilliant day . Every volunteer played their part to show off the railway , to make people feel welcome and safe . I know people are concerned by the price but get 4-6 together and £75 compartment is not too bad . The GM was on the platform , firstly nice to meet Helen but again , welcoming and engaging , made my wife and children feel good as well

    Two comments:

    (1) The K&ESR (which I am privileged to serve as a Director) is very pleased with the take-up of special Covid services. Some of us are not-so secretly pleased that this has caused the K&ESR’s delightful vintage compartment stock to spend time out in the daylight.

    (2) A WSR unofficial friends Facebook group is in preparation. Details will appear here shortly - give us a couple of days. Hopefully that will reduce the burden on Nat Pres.

    Robin

Correct. Anybody who has not completed a turn or attended training in the last six months will need to have an assessment.

Foxcote Manor has arrived at Minehead today, ironically the haulier was the same firm with whom JJP was not best pleased a few weeks back, for apparently losing a very expensive trailer of his.

I am still confused about the trailer. Was it stolen or not? Are the Police now investigating a crime? They did not seem so keen at the time.

There is a report in Rail Advent, with comments, about it.

Apparently there was no receipt ( or just paperwork? can't remember which now) ..... A £10,000 reward though

Valid points but again look up the M5 to the SVR, in the aftermath of the line being washed away in 2007 they still ran a service between Kidderminster and Bewdley, not the most secnic section of the line but it still reminded people 'we are still here'

Definitely - look at the Dartmouth Steam Railway. Fortune favours the brave!

Indeed. I believe the IOWSR is going to start running a two train service from tomorrow. The demand certainly seems to be there, at least in some areas of the country

I think you are wrong - Lydeard is nearer the M5 and the day trippers who want to ride on a Steam Train - where it goes is of no consequence - you cannot say that either Pickering or Grosmont are exactly destinations can you?

and if you do not try it you will never know

We need the WSR to get back into action as soon as possible - the niceties can follow on later!

At the very least the amusing Facebook comment on the subject this morning on the WSR's page made me laugh!
