Good to see some reopening is likely this summer, and Grosmont to Goathland up the 1 in 49 is a major attraction. A new air route is planned from Newquay to Teesside with Eastern Airways - sorry, Cross-Country, but a 1hr 30mins flight beats hours and hours in a Voyager, any day that flights are running!

I used to enjoy my flights with Eastern - especially if I didn't have to drive after landing. Though champagne on the 06:55 flight out of Newcastle was a bit early!

Never too early for Champagne. After all it is always after 17:00 somewhere in the world!

Does this mean any services running between pickering an grosmont in 2020 or is 2021 the anticipated reopening date?

According to the BBC article linked by Ploughman, August 1st is the intended re-opening date subject to change, but I doubt that services will be running in the normal manner for a while.

Certainly at first,it is planned to run services separately from both ends of the line,ie Grosmont-Goathland and Pickering-Levisham in a similar way to the Santas. It is felt that children would get restless on full line journeys, also toilet use would have to be at stations, hence the shorter durations.

Slight correction; the plan is to run the services from Grosmont to milepost 18 , giving a 6 mile return trip. Trains will be top and tailed as no run round facilities at MP.18. Pickering -Levisham as stated; again 6 miles.

Locos available for start of services should be 29, 825, 926, 65894, 76079 & 92134. Three out each day.

Just checking, does that mean that the northern end trips will only be open to board at Grosmont? I’ve got a twinge of interest from the family, but it’s very conditional on combining with a walk like the rail trail - and value for money is definitely assessed based on price per head!

As far as I'm aware, it is a simple round trip with no break of journey at any other station. The walk on the rail trail would have to be there and back either before or after the train journey. Or you could just walk as far as the Birch Hall Tavern and back!
I don't think anything has been finalised yet and all this could change in the next few weeks.

Mm, certainly I'll be watching carefully, we've a holiday booked close-ish at the beginning of August. It might be a case of just doing the walk and watching the trains - will anything else on the railway be open to allow me to spend any money with you?

First day of shadow running for crew training purposes.
Took these photos today on a walk when by chance Repton plus 4 coaches made an appearance.
There was also an ECS working by Sybilla with a rake of coaches.
Checking the Grosmont webcam show some empty platform space.
