    Hi all,

For anyone interested, the Gwili Steam Railway are holding a 'Virtual Gala' today. It's being hosted on their Facebook page - search 'Gwili Steam Railway'; you don't need to be signed up as a member of FB to view it.

It's a 'move by move' series of pictures, taken throughout the day (posted in real time). The images and video are taken from the first of the 40th Anniversary events ("Gwili 40 - The Opening Act") at Easter 2018.

    Diolch,

    Phil.

About 20 years ago, I recall the refreshment facilities at the railway were a coach with an aisle on one side so that the serving staff could access the table. I can't find any reference to it on the railway's website. Are there any on-line photos of it at the railway and also the inside?

Searching for it hasn't proved successful as I don't know what it's called!

You mean the booth car - http://www.cs.rhrp.org.uk/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=1114. It’s at the Mid Norfolk Railway these days.

The Griddle as it was affectionately known. Was a sad day when that left the railway.

Will Wales guardsman be running at svr as it seems that they wouldn’t want a small engine for that railway they usually prefer the better ones. Is an unusual thing to hear

It’s an engine that has been at the ceiling railway for years but just been taken away

I think the loco you are talking about is 'Welsh Guardsman' which was recently moved from the Gwili railway to the SVR. I believe the SVR are to help the owners with hire arrangements and with carrying out some work to the loco.

I have no idea what/where the 'Ceiling railway' is!

Given the default lexicon generally tends to be American (rather than correct) English, Cymric toponyms giving spell checkers the heebie jeebies shouldn't really be wondered at .... and I wish you could see the number of red underlines in this post! :)

Ah, The Cymric Toponyms - a fine band in their day. I think I’ve still got some of their stuff on vinyl in the loft ... ;)

Flippin 'eck Tom, the vinyl junkies will lap that up. Stick 'em on ebay. You should make enough to fund 'Beachy Head's' completion and next overhaul :)

The official statement from the SVR when it arrived was that the railway had "...agreed to host Welsh Guardsman while the owner decides on the operating opportunities for the loco during the 2020 season. Bridgnorth Locomotive Works will undertake some examination and maintenance work and we will potentially have the chance to use the locomotive". So at the time (before the shutdown obviously) there was a chance it would have run before moving elsewhere. Now, who knows...

Ok that’s ok then. I hope they haven’t upset them to make them move as that engine is always been the one I’ve seen on the gwilly and it won’t be the same without that one

    Hi CoT fan,

Yes Welsh Guardsman was based on the Gwili for a long time, but engines do come and go, and I’m sure she will be appreciated on the SVR.

We have a lot to look forward to when we do start running again with L92 presently with us, Moorbarrow under repair and Haulwen to follow. So it’s not all bad.

    regards

    Matt

Yes L92 is a much better engine for you and I have read now that Olwen which is an original gwili will be run again too so it’s good news. The railway is nice along the river
