Is it really too much to expect someone to tell us "members, shareholders and supporters" exactly what has happened? As usual, in the absence of information, there is speculation. Is the HPC grant covered by some sort of confidentiality clause and, if not, why are the people that know what has happened not saying? As most people appreciate, the difference between theory and practice is much greater in practice than it is in theory, there doesn't have to be a malign reason why what was planned to happen, didn't. There could be a perfectly reasonable explanation as to why the grant funded activities have not occurred as was intended when the money was granted, but the absence of that explanation does tend to generate the suspicion, along with the way that the Plc board has acted with respect to the S&DRT, that this is another piece of high-handed autocracy in the same vein.

Any WSRA member is free to write to me via the WSRA. My contact details are easily available to members. Please include your membership number.
Any shareholder is free to write to the WSR plc.
"Supporters" is a hard term. I've mentioned before WSRA does attempt to reach out to all those who we can identify who are not members but have provided tangible support.

  5. Steve can be relied upon to promptly and consistently report the news factually, good or bad. No verifiable facts = no news reported. He is often first to put press releases into the public domain, whether they be controversial or not. You won't find opinion or personal views on wsr.org.uk and that's how it should be. There are other channels for that.....

The simple remedy is for the 'troops' to down tools and withdraw their support until those in the ivory tower take note ...

Since a good proportion of the 'troops' are aged over 70 this is likely to happen in any case for other reasons soon, both on the WSR and throughout the heritage railway sector.

    Not correct.

Under the Landlord and Tenant 1954 Act Part 2, a Landlord who wishes to use the premises for his own purposes (ground 'g' in s. 30) and who has a good case can start proceedings as soon as the s.25 Notice to Quit is served, so that the court proceedings can be concluded and take effect at the expiry of the date specified in the Notice to Quit.

To link in with a few other posts, my experience of the County Courts is that they deal with these matters most expeditiously, and there is also a 'summary judgement' procedure available that expedites matters, and the 'security for costs' application for an insolvent or dodgy financially company bringing or defending a case.

If I were a member of the WSR PLC board, I would myself be 'bricking it', to use a slang term. It also would be a good thing for the WSR PLC board members to consider whether they could be made personally liable under Company Law.

    Cheers,

    Julian

Another good reason for the PLC to prioritise steady income over unnecessary expenditure. Sadly I suspect the S&DRT will lose much-needed visitor income as well.

Unfortunately your assumption that s 30 g applies is wrong, WSR could have used this clause prior to the granting of the new 50 year lease, but they didn't. It is a valid reason deny lease renewal but they did not invoke it when they could.
Legally WSR are in a difficult position, but in reality SD have the problem of at some point relocating, their best option is negotiate significant compensation for massively early exit and substantial improvements made, WSR could make life very difficult ref access and not stopping trains at Washford etc, the behaviour exhibited to date suggests this could occur, the WSR must also be factoring in the likely loss of the 7 F in their consideration.

Just joined and donated. It was the tenor of the WSR press release that swung it for me. The person who wrote/approved it should be ashamed

Hum, having made a fool of themselves, the WSR Then labours the point? To say nothing of the potential implications of losing the 7F.

That might suggest something of a death wish

WE want you to vacate the premises but we are going to make it difficult for you to access the site to clear it, its a different approach I accept.

I suspect the WSR don't want the site cleared, they probably want the shed left behind, for example, but if I were the S&DRMT I'd certainly be looking at both a scorchd earth policy and every last penny of compensation I could squeeze from the WSR.

I think the comment referred to normal operations, rather than any removal process. However, even with that rider, i would hope that in a sector that relies on cooperation even in the good times, no one would be daft enough to be so wilfully contrary in these hard times.

I think the WSR are being very responsible in these testing times, socially distancing themselves from the heritage railway family.
