Of course the nation is 'about more than just its capital.'

But also there is no real justification in my opinion for concentrating all of the collection at York, since the nation is about more than just the geographical centre.

If there is insufficient display space at York, then surely it makes good sense to display parts of the collection at sites dispersed around the realm.

Many items are of course dispersed around the country, thus all of the collection is not in York, even small museums such as the accessible Stainmore have exhibits on loan, surplus exhibits have been sent to remote coastal locations such as Swanage.

The NRM was open today (17th March). It is shut from tomorrow (18th March), as announced this evening (17th March). So no 60th birthday party tomorrow for Evening Star which was named on 18th March 1960.

Honestly, as a Yorkshireman, it's nice to have a decent large/national museum in the area. (We don't count the Bradford Media Museum, it's terrible). I know Leeds has the Royal Armouries, but aside from that most of the big museums of this type are in London or Manchester. I'll probably never go to STEAM at Swindon for example because I have literally no other reason to go to Swindon.

Why would anyone want another reason to go to Swindon?:D

Hah! The GWR is by far the least interesting of the big 4 to me so I've little motivation to go either way!
