So there's two steam tours over Shap on Saturday and about an hour between both. I notice there's a LE path from Preston to Carlisle for the diesel, though I'm not sure if that means it's solo steam over Shap as wont the ECS move to Peterborough be top & tail ??

    I must clarify, it's either 46115 or 6201, not both !

Quite a day for the person who rosters the crews.

And worth noting that there is probably only one company with enough footplate crews to be able to roster this many steam activities on one day.

No idea but I'm guessing that the CME may use just one crew on this occasion - Carnforth to Preston to Carnforth is eight hours.

And most likely for the Spirit of the Lakes. 10A’s going to be a real hive of activity that day.

The Cotton Mill is going to be at least 2 crews taking into accounts that the first ones will have done the shunt before leaving Carnforth and the last ones will have the shunt as well.

The steam loco, whatever it might be is coming off at Carlisle I believe, leaving the Tyne Valley to the 47s.

Does anyone have a return path from Carlisle for the light engine?

We all hope they run to plan but the weather looks set to have its say (yet again) so it will be very lucky if some issue does not arise somewhere.

Lets be more optimistic and hope for all the engines performing well and passengers and photters having a great day.

I had been planning to get across, particularly after missing last weeks day out, looking forward to it for a month, but I've been flattened all week by a dose of bronchitis. Still had my fingers crossed this morning, but a combination of a slower than hoped for recovery and the prospect of hauling my weary bones up a hill in horizontal sleet with half-working lungs and a bag of camera gear on my back has led to my reluctant withdrawal from the fray.

It's a pity, because given the subjects and the weather I bet there are some special shots to come out of the day. Looking forward to seeing them here tomorrow.

EDIT. Just checked the weather forecast again and although it's still rough, it's an improvement on what they were giving this morning for Tebay. I'll keep an eye on that. I might do it yet.
