Probably best ask Swanage for a few coaches then!

I assume then that the line isn't bi directional or that NR cant as a temporary measure re work the signalling ,to enable one unit at a time to operate on the down line only between East Grinstead and Hurst green ? not much use obviously to getting the 4 bluebell coaches moved, the MHR will have to look at re working the gala with what they have available, or try to get some in but the only other option is West Coast, and that's not going to be cheap , assuming they have any spare at Southall.

There's a comment on the NR twitter that said that single line working was considered but "However, we decided against this as it wasn’t the best thing for passengers." Not explained why, but my hunch is its probably a choice between doing the work quicker with a complete possession; or allowing single line working but having passenger disruption for much longer.

Oops! A local news website has published a time this afternoon of when the VIP train will be passing over the new bridge tomorrow.

There is only one crossover at Lingfield between East Grinstead and Hurst Green and it is a manual. There are buses between East Grinstead and Three Bridges - times already on National Rail Enquires from tomorrow and fast trains from Three Bridges this is the better option.

The timetable for 7th March appears to need four engines at the start unless the same one works the 0940 arrival and 0945 departure at Alresford

From what I remember from access planning in that area, single line working between Lingfield GF and East Grinstead will allow an hourly service. It isn't just the time getting the GF release and talking the train in and out of SLW, there is also an allowance for briefing the driver on the SLW and extra restrictions from the pilot man at (in this case) Lingfield and East Grinstead. The nearest RRV access points are Lingfield and East Grinstead, so it's easier to give the engineers a clear railway to work on.

Before anyone says "we" would have done this that and the other back in the day and kept the service running; that was then and this is now. Track and earthworks engineers of the 1960's would have given their eye teeth for modern RRV mounted hydraulic powered equipment. ( Also modern messing facilities, modern site lighting and reliable communications.) There have also been 60 years of learning and instilling a culture of safety.

    Cheers, Neil

It appears from National Rail Enquires they are running a half hour service from Lingfield to Victoria, and Oxted to Bedford hourly at first then half hourly. Dormans pasengers bused to Lingfield.

76017, 30925, 41312 and 60103 will be running - there's a full loco roster on the website. Interestingly it lists 30506 for 14/15, which makes me wonder if she's been renumbered over the winter?

Still 506. After the effort that Heritage Painting put in I should hope it will be 506 for a long time to come.
One of those typo nonsenses, I expect. Below the roster list is the sentence "The Company reserves the right to substitute a different train should this be necessary for whatever reason." TRAIN!!! Argh!

Yes I know that but what I need is a timetable with locos allocated to trains including the 2H

A mini gala today for the reopening.
60103 and 30925 top and tailing the reopening special. 76017 and Class 50 top and tailing the service train.

Edit: 76017 later swapped with 30925.
The first public train with 60103 had 76017 on the rear. It appeared that the return run was going to be a double header of A3 & Std Class 4.

Excellent day for the MHR today. Had a lump in the throat when 60103 rolled into view and started setting off the detonators. Congratulations to everyone involved in todays events. Impressive turnout at Butts Bridge to watch the VIP special pass. I hear Alan Titchmarsh was on board and unveiled a plaque at Alton Station on arrival. Not a good day for pictures though. Bloody weather kept changing every five minutes with the rain arriving early this afternoon at Alton. Some pictures from todays events:

Impressive turn out at Alton! I stayed further south between Arlesford and Ropley and plenty of folk to watch the action although this location is a good walk from nearest road. Nice way to celebrate line being re-opened for full length.
