I've noticed on Real Time Trains that there is a train booked to leave LSL Crewe at 09.30 tomorrow morning to Shrewsbury Coton Hill via Chester.
Does anybody know what it might be ?

Isn't that usually a driver training run, as it then returns via Bushbury Jnc and Stafford?

    Hello Ralph,

I'm new to RTT, so I presume that this is a diesel loco.

The NR computer, where the data comes from, does not have data for the performance, speed, acceleration, etc of any steam locos, so it uses data from a certain class of diesel, then by adding what may look like silly loads, in terms of weight, it is able to create a path suitable for steam haulage.
So it may well be steam on the front in this case.
If you subscribe to Railcam, you can access a webcam looking at the Chester line out of Crewe and thus check the actual motive power along with the track diagrams continually showing the live location.
If youon 'train information' you will see it shows 'Diesel Loco with 715 tons, this invariably means it is steam hauled.

A caveat to Ralph's reply - the circular path via Coton Hill appears on a daily basis (like many freight paths in RTT) as does a Q path to Chester and back so shouldn't be taken as a guarantee something is running, as Ralph suggests it's best to check.
In the past the Coton Hill trains have appeared as individual STP (Short term plan) rather than daily WTT entries so were easier to spot.

There is no sign of movement yet but the path was activated at 7.30 this morning.

The following news is from Rail Advent !! Let's hope that it runs and some of you will get a chance to get out and see it. <BJ>

Steam locomotive No.45231 The Sherwood Forester will be out on the mainline and be completing test runs in preparation for its first tour of the year.
Please note: these are test runs which may be subject to change or cancellation at the last minute. Please check before heading out to see 45231 The Sherwood Forester.

Thursday 30th January 2020 will see the locomotive operating on the mainline between Crewe and Chester.

Not sure if this is strictly appropriate to this thread, so please delete if not.

Walking back from a meeting I was surprised by the unusual sight of an LNER branded HST set at Manchester Oxford Road.

    This is the path: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/V03546/2020-01-30/detailed

Any idea what it was doing? One of Mr Hosking's new toys?

Should've been a class 67 and Mk 4s plus DVT, which will be replacing the Mk 3s on the Holyhead - Cardiff WAG services soon.
