The work on the refurbishment of the DMU fleet at Llynclys carries on. The parcels bay was given a repaint. The two photos, courtesy of Facebook, show one end being prepared with the other already having received the first coat of paint.

Lenny the cat is a key volunteer at Llynclys! If there is any chance of food or attention he's first in line!

Winter is the time of year when inside jobs are most sought after, even if that means a deep clean of the smokebox to allow the inspection of all joints.

The work continues at Weston as we go for a temporary link up to the main line to be able to bring down materials from Oswestry.

We are planning another track walk on the 28th March. If you fancy coming to see the work we have done and the potential of the line, keep that date in mind. More details soon.

The sectional platform has started to arrive at Weston. It will take a few more deliveries but the area has been cleared for the platform.

There is still plenty of ground work going on as the site is adapted for it's role as an operational station. The all important toilet block is making progress now that the drainage has been completed.

The catch point is being bolted down. Before the wind had chance to blow it away. 86659840_2690029807717209_1092148838354911232_o.jpg

The blog has now been updated.

    http://ilvaporista.blogspot.com/

On the subject of the blog as there is now a formal monthly newsletter published by CHR is it worth to continue with the blog in it's current format?
Have you all subscribed to the newsletter?
I only started the blog as there were limited public updates available on line after the CHR forum went to being available to members only.

Now that CHR has a proactive means of communication through social media and with the wider world has the blog run it's course? Or maybe once the link with Weston is completed it ends?
Let me know what you think.

There is still a long way to go before the line to Weston opens. There is a hoped for timing but that will depend on raising the funds and availability of volunteers. Although we are making progress the extension it will be a while before we can run services.

After Weston it is really difficult to say which part will be next. Going in either direction we come to the level crossings across major trunk roads. The solutions to these issues are both complex and expensive.

The CHR Newsletter is usually published at the end of the month. You can sign up on the CHR Homepage, scroll down to the bottom and there is a link to sign up.

Once again thank you for all your support. I will continue with the blog though I am aware that pictures are harder to come by these days hence why so many are lifted from the Facebook page. My apologies to those who have liked the Facebook page as you will be seeing the same pictures.

I would have thought that extending the running line in the Gobowen direction to just short of the A5 crossing would give a nice run through pleasant scenery past the Hill Fort.

Indeed and we have the orchard there as well. However it's only a temporary solution until the crossings can be sorted out.
You may also be aware that there are lots of discussions about running to the hospital from Gobowen, lots of people make lots of noise about how beneficial it would be but nobody has come up with the money or a workable solution so far.
Personally I find it hard to believe that the business case stacks up to run a dedicated service for about one mile to transport a few passengers for appointments spread throughout the day. The more cost effective solution is an on demand minibus to connect with trains at Gobowen. Another option is to extend an existing service to reverse at Park Hall Halt, though that is highly unlikely.
When the long promised dual carriageway for the A5 heads north from Oswestry the line can be bridged and the link to the mainline can be completed. That is not going to happen in the short term.

What are the current plans for running in the other direction, if any? There is obviously a base at Llynclys but is disconnected from the rest. Is it intended to remain so or are there plans to reconnect? And what about the line to the quarry? Is this going to be the final destination if you ever get across the road or would Llynclys and beyond be a preferred option? Forgive me if this info is readily available with a bit of searching. I've looked on the Cambrian website but it doesn't really answer these questions.
