I think the steam needed for train heat is fairly insignificant but I remember a trip to Liverpool in 1963 when the EE Type 4 (Class 40 to those of a younger generation) hauling our train ground to halt at Bletchley with black smoke pouring out from around the rear bogie. It was quickly replaced by a grubby Black 5. The heating was then turned off but whether this was due to a fault or the driver deciding he would need all the steam the boiler could produce to keep the 16 coach train on the move I don’t know. This was in the big freeze but the uncomfortable journey was more than made up for by the sound of a Black five being thrashed to death all the way to Scouse Town.

The wedding was last Monday Victor. At 12:15 I'll have been a married man for all of a week. :)

I'm a tad worried that she's just taken out a rather large life insurance policy in my name. :)
