As it's their official 20th Anniversary trip surely they won't want to run it diesel hauled? I suppose there's always Tornado but they might struggle to find a support crew as it's already been filling in with tours it wasn't scheduled to run.

With 60009, 46233 and 61306 all having problems, it's been a difficult Christmas season.

I don't believe there are any Black 5s at Southall. Of the Riley pair, 44871 has gone to the Nene Valley for Santa Special duties and 45407 has returned to Bury for winter maintenance. Don't know about Britannia - LSL used to use Southall as a base but I thought all their locos were based at Crewe these days.

44871 is at the Nene Valley Railway for santa's
    45212 at the KWVR
45407 is back at the works for maintenance

6233 may still be at Southall but is withdrawn from service with OTMR and Reverser issues needing attention
60009 has gone back to Bury following two hot boxes

Britannia I thought was at Crewe . 60163 York (or did it return south yesterday )

Well it happened once before - can't remember which year it was but 35028 worked the White Cliffs Christmas lunch tour double-headed with a Black 5

    2010 - this one:

I suggested it only partly in jest - 35028's season is over and it would be a great gesture to a fellow operator. Of course, there may be contractual or operational reasons that prevent it.

Looking at the Steam Dreams social media sites this evening to see what happened to 61306 does not give any clue to the problems encountered by the excursion today. I thought that the SD on train Twitter feed was supposed to keep the passengers informed of the trains progress in regards to the pick up points. Nothing at all posted today about the Stratford Upon Avon excursion but they had time to post other items about the history of other SD trips from the past on Faceache and Twitter. Bizarre.

6233 Duchess of Sutherland will work the Salisbury and Sherborne Carol Train tomorrow in place of Mayflower.

That's strange, as I thought they had withdrawn the Duchess from any tours for the rest of the year with reverser and tpws problems, so how come it can run tomorrow?

What - a red engine on the Southern - how dare they!? Seriously - this sounds like a very fine effort by SD to organise this - should be quite special.

Where is the Duchess atm? Still at Southall? If not, has anyone spotted a short-notice 5Zxx move in RTT yet?

I think it only fair to praise the owners of Duchess of Sutherland and support crew for standing in at the eleventh hour.
Without them it wouldn't have been much of a twenty year commemorative railtour for Steam Dreams and passengers. <BJ>

Really - even though it's happened before, the loco is in good order and in London (I assume), and is in gauge throughout. Is it really millions to one against? Moot now, of course.

That was a while ago, Clan Line is worked by DBS now and in any case there would be little time to prepare it after its Belmond duty last Saturday. Don’t forget it’s maintained entirely by a small band of volunteers, next job is boiler washout on Saturday then winter maintenance with the next booked trip on February 8th

They have clearly worked hard to fix the reverser. The other problem was with OTMR which I have been told is not a safety critical item
