You probably know this already but to remind you in case you have forgotten, I give my time free to WCR, and since as you know charters cannot not run without stewards. If stewards had to be paid a going rate it would bump the fares up. I rarely even put in any valid claims for expenses.
I also pay to travel on a few RTC tours every year including some of the overseas ones, so yes I think I make a fair contribution. Do you?

Desperately sad news for John Cameron and those who support UoSA on the main line. It's hard to fathom how an extended repair on the tender hasn't resulted in any success. At least the whole loco is now going back to Bury where hopefully they can get the loco running again and, importantly, tested on the ELR.

If anything positive is to be gained from all this, assuming that the loco can be fixed, at least it will be at the right end of the country to be able to pop across to York for its return leg on the 14th.

Whilst I have more than a vested interest in No.9 getting fit for this trip, I actually hope that for the sake of those who look after her, they can get her doing again what she does best and on the line where she belongs.

It's funny the things that get advertised on this site. I've just been show an ad on this page for a care home in Kings Langley offering Winter Respite. Now, where did it pick up those keywords from?

Jeez, I wonder how much a room large enough for an A4 and a Mk1 would cost there?

Well I normally have to pay two nights hotel and about £40 in petrol when I steward a tour. So no I do not paid to ride on it, but it still costs me about £130 each time I do one and I feel totally knackered for about 3 days afterwards as often I have to spend much of the day standing up.
So yes I guess I am a "free loader" in your eyes.
