The link below is to the interactive map published by Travel Somerset accounting for all planned road closures in Minehead for the next 12 months. Seawards Way is not mentioned. Difficult to know what this can mean except if the level crossing works are scheduled for any time soon, Travel Somerset know nothing about it. But I was wondering if the 3 days of closures earlier in the year may have meant this work has been completed. If so, its surprising it hasn`t been reported as such. Mind you, there have been one or two other distractions this year...

That could change at any time since it is not necessary to give 12 months notice of a road closure.

    Thanks for the reply guys.
Was in the area last weekend and noticed that the crossing hadn't been renewed.
In a professional capacity was interested in how it was progressing.....or not as the case might be

Thank you for that Wenlock:) The SKs are popular with groups of people - so I am glad that 25308 should be coming back to the WSR after Christmas.

Indeed, customers are quite keen to reserve a compartment for a family. It's a premium product, and I believe profitable.

    Hi Ian,

I'm away at the moment but am keeping an eye on things from afar. I see numerous references from the current chairman's ambition to "restoring the line to red route status". Has the line ever been an official red route? I don't think so but would be happy to be corrected.

    cheers

    Brian

I believe it has as it was upgraded. When 48773 visited in 1993 it could run but the tender couldn’t be filled so happened after this.

Cannot add to that except to offer my condolences to those affected by this sad news.

That was probably a temporary dispensation, similar to when 4472 was running. I don't think the line has ever held formal red route status.

Can I also add my belated condolences for Mr Yorkshireman, I am away at the moment and am only picking up a connection every now and again when the damp string goes tight. Peter was a staunch supporter of the Reform Group and we are all grateful for his contributions, both moral and material. A gentleman.

How then has the line coped with being the host railway for red-route or equivalent rated locos like Halls, Castles, a King, Nelson, Scotsman, Tornado and the like if it isn't fully certified to carry locos of that axle loading? Or am I misunderstanding how red route status works?
