    Good Honest Toil

With a delayed start from Carnforth due, I believe, to late running 'service' trains, a load of 13 coaches, adverse weather conditions and a 50mph locomotive running on a ‘path’ seemingly designed for a faster locomotive which became unavailable, it was never going to be easy for 48151 and her crew to work 'The Dalesman' over Grayrigg and Shap.
Nevertheless, she is seen here valiantly battling against all adversity with good honest toil, as she passes Oxenholme on 06 August 2019.

I very much doubt it as she was not well on the return last week.

Indeed the background to this seems to be a) train originally planned to go up via Hellifield and cannot due to problems there immediately putting the operator on the backfoot in terms of motive power, b) then the planned express locomotive is unavailable meaning its little legs, diesel or cancel. Diezsel or cancel would se a shoeing on here from many so its a rock and hard place thing, I do wonder whether there have been discussions with NR regarding the situation (as it seems to be much to do with problems with infrastructure) and the fact that in order for the train to be able to run its going to be a difficult path.

When people talk of 'arrogance' on the part of WCRC I am interested to know what they are supposed to do? I am sure they would be delighted to receive sage advice from so many experts.

I have no sense that West Coast is arrogant about anything. However they don't tell the world the finer detail of what they do and why should they? How open is 'name any other TOC that operates on the network' with the public?

Very occasionally, we get direct feedback on Nat Pres explaining the situation - sometimes from a member of staff, very occasionally from a crew member if it concerns particular circumstances on the day with a loco/train.

Why on earth people can't be grateful for that - something that WC is not obliged to do - defeats me.
