There are four round trips planned for Quorn - Mountsorrel Branch - Rothley - Quorn so lots of action on Sunday with the regular GC service as well.

There is some nice video footage in the Photography section of the running - and squealing! from March 31st operation. The next Branch operating day is April 17th, mid week for the local school holidays!

They are still working on fitting out the shed extension. There is no floor yet and no point or rails for the extension, as of Yesterday.

What's the progress with the shed pxtension? Have they already started track laying?

Last I heard was that they were expecting the Local Authority Building Control Department to sign it all off during this month. The track hasn't appeared yet and they have been told it will be later this year before it can be extracted from Snibston! Other sources of track are being investigated, not surprisingly..........

From which site in Snibston could they reclaim the used track? And will the GCR also get some lengths of rail?

From what was formerly the "Discovery Centre" museum at Snibston. The trackwork is sufficient to serve the building extension from what I gather, but nothing else (and nothing for the GCR itself as far as I am aware, though that may have changed).
Bear in mind that several items of rolling stock that were at Snibston are now at Mountsorrel, and will be joined there by the Brush steam loco once the required security measures (alarm system/CCTV) are all installed and working.

Thank you very much for your detailed answer. I was able to count six switches and several hundred meters of track laying idle on the former site (Google Maps satellite). Are there also other interested groups who want to get some material from this site, because the Mountsorrel Heritage Center only needs a smaller amount of the parts.

Presumably anything remaining at the Snibston site is owned by Leicestershire County Council, so anyone interested in objects from there would have to deal with them directly. I expect there are various "Conditions" of the Local Authority that must be met before anything is loaned/given from the items remaining there. Note that CCTV and enhanced security measures were required to be fitted at the Heritage Centre as part of the "deal" to get the Brush built tank engine on-loan.
At least the items that have gone to Mountsorrel remain within the same County and are on display there, which may again be one of the conditions that need to be met to get items from the former Snibson museum.

I thought that the museum was still there, only the discovery centre demolished and most of the running line removed. The headstock, signal box and shed are still there as part of the snibston mining museum. Am I wrong?

I don't know the sites current status as I am some distance away from there. As far as I am aware the "listed" mine buildings are (obviously) still in situ but not open to the public as a museum. There are still a number of former exhibits from the Discovery Centre stored there, presumably somewhere inside the mine complex buildings. Those former exhibits include the Brush built tank loco (which should be leaving by the end of this month), but there may be non rail items as well. Having recently looked at some of my late Fathers photos taken when the Centre was open, they seemed to have several Brush built battery-electric road vehicles on display there, but I haven't found any info as to their ownership - they may have been loaned to the Centre or part of the L.C.C. collection of artefacts.

The inside of the Shed extension now has a Mezzanine office it would seem, but no track yet. DSCF6676.JPG

Presumably no sign of the Brush tank loco yet? Last information I received indicated it was due to arrive last week........

I forget where, but I have seen a photo of it at Mountsorrel in the past week.

Thanks - It was due to be moved from Snibston on the 21st May.

EDIT:- Looking at the photo of the workshop extension, I see a tank wagon appears to have been moved to the Heritage Centre - presumably one of the unrestored ones from Swithland Sidings?

As there are the three wagons outside, I think the tank loco will be inside the shed already?

    No, it’s from Snibston.
