The Dalesman 2019

Now up on West Coast web site. Similar to last year, starting from York and Chester. Steam on at Hellifield.

All on Tuesdays, plus the odd Monday extra and a couple in October on Weds, Thurs. Looks like every other week until July.

No sign of anything that would replace the Fellsman's Lancaster start.

Interesting that one of the departure points is Leeds CENTRAL station. If only!

 

Well half the viaduct is still there !

 

The season gets underway on Tuesday 30th with one originating in the east, and the loco will be . . . my guess, the 8F.

 

Good old 'little legs'...excellent choice for the S + C

A1/2/3/4 's getting the London trains going out of Central up to Holbeck High Level. They used to back down from the long gone Copley Hill shed (I've been chased out of there as well.)

 

I well remember seeing my first A1 at Central (on my first spotting trip to Donny late autumn '63)). 60125 'Scottish Union.

 

The first time I saw 60103 'Flying Scotsman' was at Leeds Central, in 1960.

And us lads always knew Holbeck MPD as 'Nineveh'....................."c'mon, let's go over to Nineveh and see if we can sneak in there" Holbeck was easy, a VERY nice driver had made a large hole for us in the back wall of the shed.........I think he used a 4F to 'modify' the brickwork.
We never managed to get in to Neville Hill .............but we sure as hell tried.

I can see Mr & Mrs V on yon Dalesman this year.

Oooh, I wonder if anyone will break away from the GB to catch this. Thankfully will be on our way home, so why not !

 

Well a shot on the long drag beats a downhill charge the other side of Penrith!

 

I was thinking the return leg, I know what Mr Thompson will be doing after Shap !

I believe it should be 50008 and some box wagons, hope its of use to somebody who is out & about tomorrow.
