Both good and bad news - 60009 won't be going to NYMR due to a parts supply delay but is apparently having her mainline certificate extended. This info comes from the "60009, Union of South Africa" pages in Facebook. I assume it is not an early April 1st joke being setup. Full text is:

"As some of you will have seen already, it is regretted that Number 9 will not be appearing at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway as planned. This is due to the late delivery of valve & piston rings due to a shortage of raw materials and the volume of work that the manufactures are currently experiencing.
On the plus side we can confirm that following remaining tests still to be done, Number 9’s main line certificate is to be extended for a further 12 months.
Keep an eye on our page for further announcements.
There is a possibility that Number 9 will visit the North Yorkshire Moors Railway in late September.
    "

Thats the answer yes it takes alot to strip con rods and valve gear 1st just to get the piston rods out and then change the new rings over onto 60009 pistons i bet.

Yes thats what i wanted to know but gresley and his daughter helped pioneer the bugatti nose gresley added his congugated valve gear. His daugher pressed the model version gresley had and thats how the unusual shaped chimney was formed matt37401 i think

To other matters namely 60009, I think it's reasonable to say that JC is looking to retirement (I've no evidence), I still think that at some stage in the future Mr Riley will take #9 on. He/they know every last nut and bolt on the loco, they have the skills and equipment to maintain it to their high standards. I've got my fingers crossed for when JC calls it a day, IR will step in. :)

All the above is just me thinking out loud, I don't have any info. or facts.

I could be wrong but I think JCs concern was that if it was put through another 10 yearly he may not be around at the end of it and he just didn’t want it to spend years rusting away in a siding awaiting funds for another overhaul. I think he will need some firm guarantees about the long term future before he changes his plans for static display and I can understand that.
Scotsman and farmers are stubborn breeds and he is both so I wouldn’t get your hopes up yet
