It is not unknown in the past that the Swanage signal man/woman has wanted to charge their laptop or mobile and [unwittingly] pulled out the webcam mains plug instead of trying to find an unused socket elsewhere. I believe the webcam plug has a label on it now but mistakes can still happen as I think must have occurred this time. Nothing nefarious I'm sure. Incidentally, it is being reported that FS haulage over it's 5 days achieved around a 97% load factor. Remarkable.

Corfe Castle Station viewing tickets are available until 10th April via: https://www.swanagerailway.co.uk/events/detail/flying-scotsman-static-days
Between 30th March and 7th April, however, there is a "Visit Dorset Attractions Festival 2 for 1 offer": https://www.swanagerailway.co.uk/events/detail/visit-dorset-attractions-festival-2-for-1-offer

The website seems a little slow with updates.
I am planning my railway visits for May and am/was considering the railways diesel gala and beer festival.

    https://www.swanagerailway.co.uk/events/detail/diesel-gala

Its states "Advance Notification Of Dates so potential visitors may book time off work, book acccommodation etc
    Event Details To Follow".

Apart from fares nothing is shown. The gala is 6 weeks away and I for one, at the moment, am not attracted to attend as there are no details
Come on guys you can do better than this if you want to attract paying visitors.
Marks out of 10...... 1 (for showing the fares)

Unfortunately those that control the Facebook page are rather quicker to update things, than the team in charge of the website. Sad, and shouldn't be so - but it's just how it is at the current time.

News from the Swanage Railway (dated Wednesday evening). <BJ>

From Scotsman to the Steam Up - TWO DAYS TO GO!! Spring Steam Up update:

''After an incredible 5 running days with Flying Scotsman, now in residence and on exhibition each day at Corfe Castle until 10th April, the fun doesn’t stop as the Swanage Railway is gearing up to operate ‘Scottish, Southern and Sulzer’ - the 2019 Spring Steam Up!

Following recent developments and arrivals, the timetable for the event has been updated by our Operations staff - and is continuing to be scrutinised to produce our internal diagrams. This will be released tomorrow once proofing has been completed; however the visit of Caledonian Railway Tank ‘419’ will headline each day of service! Ably helped by ‘30120’ and recently renumbered Scottish Standard ‘80126’, the event will also see visiting LMS Designed Ivatt ‘46521’ operating throughout - as well as 33111 seeing usage on the Friday too!

‘419’ will work together with our other locomotives on passenger services due to haulage restrictions and limitations; however across the three days will double-head with each steam loco AND operate regular freight throughout the Purbeck hills! In total this sees 5 (!!) locos in steam each day, with 33111 increasing the daily traction!

Further information will follow tomorrow - but let’s get excited! ‘Scottish, Southern and Sulzer’ (now featuring Swindon and Scotsman!) begins in less than 48 hours!''

Is that from their website as that's what it said yesterday when you said it was the Ivatt.

I have to say that the website still shows what I presume is the T/T but with wrong loco allocations and today they seem unable to attend their phones or their phone system cannot handle demand. Either way, this is unimpressive 24 hours before a visit.

Many thanks. Hence the importance of the actual T/T that I'm pleased to see is now up. Clearly they have made a judgement that the Caley on its own on the length of train they want to run just won't work.

How not to run a railway. Maybe they should look at those running the website and ask / tell them that the railway needs a better service/updates etc.......especially if those who run it are paid rather than volunteers.

If no details re diesel gala are not available soon I shall sadly choose to go to the SVR diesel gala as need to book B+B close to railway so can enjoy a beer or 2. Please get details asap

It looks like a revised version has been put up on the website; the version to use is the one with Friday and Saturday combined.

Correct. I emailed the reservations@ address and asked for clarification of what was going on. Within an hour or so I had a very helpful reply with an attachment of the appropriate file.

Meanwhile, just give up on trying to phone the Railway. I know that we are talking about volunteers in many cases but not having all bases covered is missing a trick or two. Rather a strange one from a set up that is professional in so many other ways.

34072 is in steam this morning and is now facing Swanage.

''Please note that 34072 257 Squadron is unavailable for this event due to Annual Boiler Re-certification''. <BJ>

419 didn't leave the shed 80104 working the 10:40 on its own. Sole reason I came down is not even working.

I would assume this is to do with the Annual are-certification/inspection?

Just looked at the webcam at 11:30 and it’s sat in the Swanage loop in steam, not sure what problems were but it does appear to be working now.

Yeah I jumped to conclusions again. She's now working and rather then run the freight at 12.24 she' going run in the same slot with two carriages instead. I guessing to make up for not running earlier...
