Looks like it was held for a service train to go first. Currently 6 minutes late approaching Nottingham.

I suspect the bit of good fortune was getting through Bentham and over the section by the Ribble bridge OK. It was the last train on the Little North Western for nearly 24 hours. If it had been scheduled a couple of hours later it would not have made it, at least not that way. There were several flood warnings along the line. A few miles away there's a video of some quite bad flooding on the road by Horton church further up the valley.

35018 powering away from Ely West Junction, with a lovely headboard to boot. So glad this went ahead after the ECS difficulties yesterday, feels like the industry came together so BIL would make it to Lynn. A really fitting tribute to Nigel. DSC_8143 (2).JPG

Yes, the Skegness service train was let out of Grantham ahead of it.

Have been out chasing this. Got lucky with the sun at all three locations. Will upload when I get home.

Going nicely through Bainton, slightly early. Sounded very smooth, well turned out. Let's have more Merchant Navies!

Denied a much wanted sunset shot at Queen Adelaide, but at least the showers and hail had passed over! 35018 on the approach to Ely and the rest of her journey under the wires to Lynn. Congrats to WCRC for running this in memory of a great railwayman. As others have said, they may get some deserved stick, but credit to them for sending BIL the furthest away from home she's been since restoration without a diesel. I'm sure Nigel's family will appreciate such a send off. DSC_8192 (2).JPG

They were impressive so I took the shot more wide angle than I had intended so I could include the tops of the clouds.
