Could be worse: you could have the Thameslink 700s that passengers out of Peterborough and intermediate stations suffer. By the way, how's the Werrington flyunder progressing? (Best PM me on that to avoid thread drift)

Please don’t mention the 700s, my backside has yet to recover from a trip to Peterborough in one!

    Groundwork underway at Werrington

Because some of us enthusiasts in the heritage community like to talk/discuss such things. I'm sorry if it doesn't meet with your approval but it is what it is.
And guess what................no forum rules are being broken.

Is it my imagination or do the 700s have no toilets? I bet Brighton to Cambridge in one must be great fun.

I believe two. It’s the Crossrail 345s that don’t - how do you fancy Shenfield to Reading?

Absolutely right Victor. We are, after all, discussing units which are displacing ‘Heritage’ stock ie HSTs. When you consider all the political threads on the forum plus all the other non railway stuff I can’t see why anybody should object to a discussion about new forms of motive power. At least it’s railway related.
    Dave.

5 toilets on a 12 car 700, and I think 4 on an 8 car. I normally only travel on 12 car services so can't be certain about the 8 car ones. The universal access toilets (the disabled ones) are bigger than my bathroom at home!

Plenty of threads on this site that do anything but bring people together ( liveries, WSR and Thompson being three off the top of ny head)

Everyone seems to be coming together to say how much they dislike them and the 700s. A rare show of agreement on these forums.

I'd have thought a better place for the discussion though was General Railway Chat? Just a thought...

Not that reliable. Northern Class 142 have around a 9,000 Moving Annual Average Miles per Technical Incident (December 9,051 MTIN MAA). Sprinters outperformed them at an early stage. Class 185s exceed 25,000 and relatively modern emus (e.g. 707s) well into six figures.

Roger Ford suspects "Given that the Class 800 units acquired under the Intercity Express Programme have now been in service for a year, and the e Thameslink Siemens Desiro Class 700 EMUs even longer, the overall glacial reliability growth across the new fleets remains a puzzle – although my working theory is that it is associated with this being the first generation of software enabled rolling stock" https://ezezine.com/ezine/archives/759/759-2018.11.19.02.48.archive.txt

Is that any worse than say, Epping to West Ruislip via the Central Line? Or Cockfosters to Thiefrow via the Piccadilly?

Oh I Dunno. The Azumas do conform precisely to the title of the forum - Diesel and Electric Traction;).

But they aren’t “main line”. And, no, I can’t imagine doing end to end on any of those journeys.
