Light engine off Swanage to Harmans at 10:00, then back to Swanage from Harmans at 10:26 with the freight.

Subsequent departures from Swanage at 11:00, 12:20, 14:20 and 15:40 (final train to Harmans Cross only). Departures from Norden at 11:37, 13:02 and 14:57.

This was the plan; obviously as a non-public train it may be subject to alteration.

Just an update; it will be 34072 on the service train tomorrow, and 31806 on the freight.

We are staying in Corfe for a short break next weekend so is it likely that the same two locos will be working?

As mentioned, 34072 just about to depart from Swanage with the first service train of the day.

Mr Rumpole, could you kindly confirm which loco is scheduled for tomorrow (Sunday) please. Thank you. <BJ>

Maybe, but I wouldn't admit to it on a public forum - employers have been known to find out and be none too impressed!

When I went for my first job back in 1969 among the things the interviewer told me was how many days annual leave I'd be entitled to, then he said I'd also be entitled to a number of uncertificated days paid sick leave he then smiled and remarked that they were in effect extra days leave.

A former colleague of mine was (very lucky to be) rescued by helicopter from the river at Severn Beach

It made the front page of the Bristol Evening Post.

Which was a bit unfortunate as he was on a sicky.

Fortunately as it was down as 'stress' his boss decided that a days fishing was a good way of dealing with it

I could have done I suppose but I have the unfortunate problem of not liking the idea of leaving the others 'in it'...

As there is a lunch train out both 31806 and 34072 will be working, although I’m afraid as I’ve been at ‘proper’ work this afternoon I don’t know which is going to be on the service train. If I had to take a guess, I’d say it would be 34072 on the service train and 31806 on the diner, given that 31806 was booked to finish earliest today, although that is far from a guarantee!

When I joined BT or as it was in 1970 Post Office Telephones, I was told by my line inspector that as we were coming to the end of the financial year I had better take 2or3 days sick leave as I had not had any throughout the year.

That was who I worked for, but my line manager never suggested that anyone used up their unused sick leave days. In fact, apart from our two week annual holidays, which we had to book in Jan/Feb, he had a dislike of anyone taking odd days leave during the year. His attitude changed a couple of years later (but that's another story) and by the time flexi-time came in he was more easy going on the matter of leave.

Sounds from the first train going past the end of the garden that I owe you an apology; 31806 on the service train this morning, and therefore 34072 on the diner. As I said, it was only a guess based on which loco was booked to finish first yesterday!

Had a great day today on the Swanage railway with my wife and four grandchildren, even my grand daughter liked it and she can be an awkward little madam sometimes, mind you I think the pkt of M&Ms helped. trains were well patronised for the time of year.

Agreed - in these days of workplaces (mostly) not being over staffed, it is mean to take sickies and leave others to cover for you. But management can go to the other extreme; in my last job my boss didn't even accept a doctor's note without accusing you of malingering.

The important thing is that both 31806 and 34072 were in service. I hadn't realised that the diner was running until you mentioned it so thank you kindly for that.

31806 hauled 4 southern coaches and a red parcels van. '257 Squadron' hauled the diner which comprised of five very smart blood and custard Mk.1s.

As mentioned the trains were very busy today. A good sign indeed. <BJ>

    @ady
34072 was turned yesterday and now faces Swanage. It should be out on Sunday on either the service train or the Dining train. 80104 is the other loco.
34072 Out again on Monday and Tuesday for Photo Charters.
