Wonder if the trust could obtain a aircraft as a static display item for their new shed in Darlington.

Knowing the trust, they would return her to airworthy status!!!!

Maintaining a static airframe can be a difficult and expensive task as metal worm is your greatest enemy, especially in our climate. Many a static exhibit has succumbed.

From experience, a metal structure to encompass it would cost @£15k, inc foundation, with the past links with Leeming etc..., council might stump up???

Then a climate controlled environment inside said metal structure, all day every day. The RAF did some experiments in that field at RAF Shawbury where many airframes are stored pending reissue to squadrons. That would have been as much about the electronics as the airframe though.

Depends what condition it was wanted to be kept in, very much doubt if it would operational in any respect, even static

    However its all conjecture.....

Agreed but even static exhibits need care and attention. Many preserved airframes I saw in the 80s have succumbed to corrosion and ended up being scrapped.
As you say, all conjecture - an NP speciality. :)

I suppose this is thread drift but good to witness the end of an era, the flypast at Cranfield today

Looking from that angle they could almost be something out of science fiction.

That's annoying, no sun at Cranfield or at Halton apparently but I expect someone was lucky

Naughty field? I was up on the back road...caught me napping and only have some very poor video footage :(

Mind you, at least I saw it - two old boys stopped me on the motorway bridge as I walked back to the car and asked if they had missed it....
