On the subject of the boats, steam tug 'Mayflower' currently has its boiler and funnel out and on the quayside.

Ooh, I can't recall seeing stock on that road before! Might have to pop down on my lunch break if it's still there

I have seen pictures of the boilers of S&D ships being taken out for attention at Highbridge - interesting because in most cases they remained in the ship until scrapping or replacement.

To Charles, and anyone else wondering about operating days around February half-term, I'm afraid I couldn't get to the museum today (school's having a snow day so I'm being a Dad instead). But, I have been emailed about availability for both 16th/17th and 23rd/24th February, so it looks as though the plan is to operate the railway on both of those weekends. I should be able to confirm this early next week.

Unfortunately, the harbour railway's operating days are still not up on the website. I'm sure they will be posted soon, but for those thinking about visiting (and with half-term only a week away), the railway will be operating on the following dates over the next few weeks.

    16/17 February
    23/24 February
    2/3 March
    16/17 March
    30/31 March
    13/14 April
    20/21/22 April
    4/5/6 May

Portbury satisfied the boiler inspector this week, so we're ready to start running again next weekend. If you're in Bristol please do come and visit. Steam trains on the dockside, together with the boats and cranes, add up to a unique experience.

As the Bristol Harbour Railway is mentioned on the 'M' shed / Bristol City Museums website I have sent an email asking that the timetable be updated for 2019.

I await a reply. Watch this space. <BJ>

Wow. You have to give credit to 'M' shed / Bristol City Museums. A swift result. <BJ>

I think the mild temperatures and bit of sun today helped as it was surprisingly busy down on the dockside today!

Lovely light when the sun was going down.

Another interesting place to visit in the Bristol area. The freight side of the line makes a welcome change from passenger stock.

My kids went for a ride on Sunday with their grandparents. "Awesome!" was the feedback I received.
