Its become focused on the Dartmouth thread. There is much speculation about Yorkshireman - his thoughts and actions. :D

There is an interesting article in the latest Moors Line about how they are going about raising the matched funding for the £9.8M "Yorkshire's Magnificent Journey" appeal. Basically, the HLF is being asked for 4.4M, 1.75M looks as though it will be coming from a Defra Tourism Development grant, 0.5M from a Local Enterprise Partnership and around 1.5M from recent bequests, leaving another 1.65M to find, around 0.42M of which has been raised from an appeal. That leaves around 1.25M still to find, which is not an outrageous target over the estimated 5 year life of the project.

This, I would suggest, is the level of money the WSR should be going for and it would be worth altering its corporate structure to be able to do so. It is relevant to the WSR because a substantial amount of the money is allocated to infrastructure renewal (in the form of the Goathland bridges) but with a lot of extra projects that contribute by meeting HLF aspirations for the visitor experience.

I was on the project committee in its early stages, when it was just for a carriage shed, but it was quickly realised that such a shed would not be attractive to HLF as a standalone project and that a collection of railway-wide projects, although resulting in a much more ambitious and expensive application actually stood a rather better chance. We should find out soon whether that was right!

This what I want to see on here.

The PLC are still running radio adverts on Heart FM for a railway that's currently closed.

Seems a waste of money and could lead to disappointment...

  9. I trust the WSR's commercial department have been made aware of the above comments? ;)

As Adge used to sing: "Don't tell I, tell 'ee" :)

<quote>The site to the west of the station has been identified by the council for tourism/recreation in connection with the West Somerset Railway expansion or employment. But since no proposals had been forthcoming, the parish council has resigned itself to permitting the homes development.</quote>

I assume that WSR no longer have any plans for expansion at BL then???

I wonder whether the planning officers follow this blog, and have read the suggestion of mothballing the BL to WN section? Perhaps that suggestion has spread alarm and despondency - anyway, it is to be hoped that that defeatist idea has been put to bed.

Presumably, it is infill of the existing development, not the area behind the water tank earmarked for new carriage sheds, for which the Plc already have planning permission.
    Is this correct?

    Attached Files:

  16. I am fairly confident this plot of land is not on the Plc's land nor does it form part of the land under the Plc's leased land. It looks like the area set aside for a pub and retail/workshops., which were originally put forward to enhance the facilities adjacent to the station. Not sure if this link will work, if not, just search Taunton Deane's planning applications webpages.

Steve is correct. The area to the north of the existing houses. Not on the Railway land to the south of them.

That suggestion was made, what, two or three days ago? I think you're being a bit optimistic there about how quickly council planning officers make decisions, somehow.

This isn't a blog either, by the way.
