My first post in this thread nearly 10 years (and 100 pages ago) was about 75069 - that perhaps symbolises the mammoth task of this rebuild! Great news, look forward to seeing her!

I think there's a few of us who second that! Is this the penultimate restoration of those that haven't had the benefit of the Engine House? You know that place where loco's go to slumber for ever more?

I seem to remember something in SVR news that it was estimated storing 75069 outside had added a significant 6 figure sum to the overhaul cost. It has also been stated the next loco to be overhaul will be a lot simpler, 7325 has been mentioned - thumbs up from me!

Currently "SVR in the works" - 42968, 4930, 4150, 82045, 7812 - with some work being progressed off site and order of listing not significant. All though are well under way. 7325 follows once some/all of these are done.

4930 is the one as it is the subject of a lottery grant so there is a time limit. assembled by its owners, although the boiler is a SVR contract job. 4150 is volunteer led and 7812 is an outside contract off the Railway. Also in the workshop are the Manning Wardle and Dunrobin, both well underway but a while off completion. But the workshop will not take on another overhaul until there is room in the system.

This last Manning Wardle boiler looks little different from the ones they were building forty years earlier. Flat or rolled outer firebox plates riveted to a special section rolled angle with no flanging. It even has a lap seam joint along the barrel. I can't make out if the barrel is made out of more than one plate. Did any other builder make boilers like this?

75069 in use this weekend and next. Also the next 9 days are all steam due to the unavailability of 40106 and the DMU.

Well, what a loco 75069 is! Looks and sounds magnificent. Handled today's train effortlessly and has such smooth acceleration - it was a shame she had to be held back to line speed. Today's driver clearly enjoyed themselves with a noisy and dismissive climb of Eardington, along with a rapid start out of Hampton loade. SVR have given themselves a magnificent addition to the fleet. A big pat on the back to the Bridgnorth engineers on a superb restoration, clearly as good (if not better) than the day she was built.
