Biased though I may be, and certainly congratulating the WSR on bringing Bob Meanley on board, the departure of the Finance Director from an organisation known to be facing financial problems alongside other challenges rather takes the gloss off the good news. The Safety Appointment also looks encouraging, so two steps forward but one back, I have to say - especially as I have heard good things about Richard.

One of the real difficulties facing the WSRplc must be that they are not in a position to 'throw money' at the other challenges they face and high-level change in the finance (and I understand Commercial) function at this time potentially exposes dangers that people doing their best to tackle difficulties in other areas do not have the financial support of somebody well versed with the actual business concerned to back them up and avoid any risk of solving some problems but making the finances worse.

Err - you posted this on the What's Going On thread too. Posting just once in the right place is good...

Didn't realise there was anything in the rules about posting in more than one potentially relevant thread - perhaps the real Moderators might have a view?

I have to agree, the widely spaced columns suggest that is all there is. Taking the blue timetable s an example the trains appear to start at 1015 and finish at 1552 which is not an unreasonable length for day for a tourist attraction. An own goal, I suggest.

Once the 2019 timetables are finalised, the likelihood is that wsr.org.uk will also provide them in a 'conventional timetable layout' - condensed, easy to read & easy to print.

I don't really see why the Plc timetables can't be provided in a 'conventional timetable layout' in the first place!

And Jeremy's agent bought about everything else.:( Most of the major loco owners seemed to be there or represented. Did the Leigh Bridge -Williton key token find a home back in Somerset?

The departure of the previous finance director (Chris Bolt?) also passed largely without comment (including on here). It may be only the listing rules which require this but it seems easy enough and good practice to get the outgoing FD to sign a simple declaration that there is nothing that needs to be brought to the attention of the members of the company or creditors. Auditors seem obliged to sign such a declaration under the Companies Act e.g. see the recent resignation of Peak Rail's auditors.

  13. Hi Anthony - there'll be a steamer heading each DbC service on 7 Dec (1630, 1700, 1720 from Bishops Lydeard to Dunster, Minehead) so there's a fighting chance 7822 will be one of them but on which train...hmmm. Might get a better idea by mid week. If I get the info, it'll be put online.

Does anyone happen to know if PWay will be in his jurisdiction or not? (I seem to recall that historically, railways differed on whether they did that?)

Unless responsibilities are changed from the present arrangements, no it wont. Infrastructure, including PWay, is the responsibility of Andrew Young, who reports to long standing Board member Ric Auger.

What do you suppose is the significance of the word "Acting" in the title of CME? It seems to imply that this is a temporary or time bound appointment to me, and it must surely mean something otherwise why not simply announce the appointment of a CME?

I suspect that Mr Meanley has reached the age where he has thoughts of retirement

Can't see that Bob Meanley would wish to give up his commitment to Tyseley until the time he decides to stand down so perhaps it is simply a temporary role to help run the ruler across all things mechanical and, importantly, safety related at the WSR on the loco side.
