The Urie lads were certainly hard at it yesterday fettling the new ashpan!

Any way a few pics of yestrday's goings on.

Oh, and especially for @73129 ;) all the nighttime images are long exposure , so no high ISO's were harmed in the taking of the images. :)

I only knew just sufficient maths to be a chemist; it's Mrs J^2 that's the bona-fide fully qualified maths geek with proper letters after her name ...

Well, that's the rest of us stuffed then! :(

How's about providing us with the salient bits, so that we might be tempted to venture to watch it?....... ;) :Nailbiting:

Well, essentially it's BBC4, a history of maths pondering the question of whether Maths inherently "is" and we have merely discovered some pre-existing universal truth; or whether we have effectively invented it like a language. It's very accessible.

As for the Mid Hants; there was section briefly mentioning the Industrial Revolution, of which the railways are illustrative. Let's just say Ms Fry is a better mathematician than fireman...

Why does that not surprise me?.......

Now I'm going to have to watch just to see who the footplate crew were!

The best footplate screening I've seen in a long time was Beeb 2's Wartime Farm, where the presenters got absolutely soaked on 850 running tender 1st. :)

    To the BBC...

    "Sir!
I wish to complain about the programme recently aired on BBC Four, "Magic Numbers: Hannah Fry's Mysterious World of Maths". The programme contains a section depicting locomotives and stock of the Mid Hants Railway, and I was most aggrieved to observe that Medstead and Four Marks station was not featured! As surely the prettiest station on the railway it surely deserved a period of exposure on air in order to encourage visitors to the station.
    Your honourable servant,
    Disgusted of Medstead"

    (;))

RN5845.jpg Just a heads-up for this coming weekend, 27th and 28th of October which is Wizard Weekend. There will be a two train steam service and the Hampshire Unit will be running a shuttle service between Alresford and Ropley only. Alresford departures 11:30, 12:15, 13:30, 14:15 and 15:30. Ropley departures 12:00, 12:45, 14:00, 14:45 and 16:00. Both steam trains run to the normal times for a two train service. The field at Ropley will be open on both days for parking.

Thanks for the info. We are hoping to make our first visit to this event on Sunday. Do you happen to know which loco's will be rostered yet? Is 80078 on an extended loan period again like last year?

Thanks for your replies. I have checked the MHR website which was updated this morning I think as it was still out of date last night.

Richard Bentley stated on Faceache that although 80078 will still be around this coming weekend there are no plans to use it

Thanks for putting the departure times up.

I noticed the other week 205025 now sports a sticker transfer below the side cab window. Saying 60 years old and still thumping. 322E0211-B58C-466C-8145-13C20CE23C3A.jpeg

Cheltenham added to the back of the 2pm ex Ropley today, to give a brisk push-pull run with 76017.
