    Hi Young Buster
I'm a newcomer to the site and read with interest your post about the whistle from Miles Beevor now being on Sir Nigel. When Miles Beevor arrived at Crewe from Perth it was already minus its whistle. This is evident from the many photos of it sitting at Perth awaiting its fate and also because it is in my possession having been removed by a driver whilst there. The one now on Sir Nigel must be from one of the other A4's that were cannibalised for parts. I wonder which one?

IIRC spares were also collected from 60034 which was stored at Perth during the same time that 60026 was present.

I suspect that there would also be spare whistles available, just like any other fitting. Were those fitted to the Standards any different?

Such a shame that they didn't number the parts like they do on firearms.

60010 was also in need of a whistle about the same time. It is almost impossible to be dogmatic as to which loco a whistle was fitted to.

The top nut on an A4's was a bit more decorative.

A4s had whistles of two types, those with finials and those with top nuts. 7 had a finial prior to overhaul at Crewe and a nutted version afterwards.

I have the BR (Doncaster) drawing for the standard chime whistle. According to the drawing notes this was also fitted to the A4s.
