It's not clear to me what Diesel B is for. Does it run light all the way to Plymouth just to shepherd 60103 and 44871 from Plymouth station to the depot? Surely not? It would make more sense (to me - but what do I know?) if it worked 1Z48 and 5Z49 T&T with Diesel A, so there's no need to run round at Taunton. Whatever - it's a fairly mammoth operation with 2 steam and 2 diesel locos. I hope it all runs smoothly, lots of people get to see and ride behind Flying Scotsman, and that Steam Dreams, Riley's and the NRM make a bit of money and lots of friends.

I agree - I think diesel B will be T&T on 1Z48 and 5Z49. Just a couple of questions though:

    1) Why does 5Z49 (presumably an ECS working) run from Taunton to Weston Super Mare, then reverse and go back to Newton Abbot? Why not just reverse at Taunton?

    2) If diesel B is not there to haul the steam locos and support coach(es) back to Laira does that mean the steam locos run back to Laira propelling the support coaches or does one of them have to run round in Plymouth station so that it is leading back to Laira?

    Just curious...…...

Diesel on the rear is NOT a good idea. Lots of steam tours in Devon and Cornwall have run successfully without one of those things on the back.

Sorry but it looks like there will be a diesel on the back for the Cornish legs. Something has to haul the train on the return journey and there is no light engine path from Plymouth to Penzance as far as I can see.

Add to that the fact that one loco on its own in Cornwall is not a simple task. Tornado is a Class 8 and had 11 on the Cornishman. GBX was doubleheaded and had 11. My guess is that these exploits will be with a load of 11 but with a Class 7 up front. A load of 10, unassisted, might be ok but 11 definitely wouldn't be. Happy to be proved wrong.

Tornado only had 10 on from Exeter Al. 11 from Pad. The brake was left in Riverside Yard.

13 coaches today and well packed with passengers.

The ensemble looked good coming off the Frome branch at Blatchbridge Jn., both engines working hard with the diesel just idling at the rear.

It was well worth the fight attempting to get through the traffic at Bath.

37.669 has been reported as the 0Z37 11:13 Southall to Plymouth. <BJ>

RTT shows 5Z45 movement journey to Bishops Lydeard has happened (of course no idea what haulage that was)

  16. Nowt passed under the footbridge at Norton Fitzwarren. Must have been a ghost train that ran 12 minutes early. Presume the engines are hiding at Taunton Station, or perhaps Fairwater Yard. Any sightings?

Glad to hear that the nation's favourite steam engine hasn't disappeared in the notorious Norton Fitzwarren Triangle!
