    It was worse.
The workers and owners of only Locomotive making shop in Denmark (named Frichs) had a hot line to the social demokrat prime minister and made very low quality work.
The E class(F in Sweden) that was made by Nohab in central Sweden and some R class 4-6-0s made in Winthertur Switzerland demonstrated how well made locomotives could be.
When it was decided to build 25 more Es during WW2 gues who got the job and made a mess of it?

Couldn't get any worse really, could it? There must be something in the archives at Wansford, surely? Something that would allow you to contact the owner (or their next of kin) and then deal with it?

But you can only judge it based on the date of the original design. 1914 is very B.C. (Before Chapelon- he was serving with the artillery in WW1 if I recall correctly) he carried out his ground breaking work rather later. We could talk Du Bousquet if you prefer but the Danes, in that conservative way of thinking so commonly found on railways, felt that this design was suitable for their needs.

    It's owned by the NVR.

Mods can this NVR continental locos chat be moved into the NVR general discussion thread?

Chapelon was the only suviving ballon observer of 20 .
    No chicken.
The swedish Fs was state of art in 1914 but building more Es in Denmark WW2 after first Chapelon had run (1929), was waste of money.
If I had money I would make new cylinders and valves for the Nene Valley E and invite all the other lesser breed locomotives for comparrison
Mr Norman had to swallow some bitter pills after having tried a norwegian designed 2-8-4 compound in 1942,but was classy enough to admit defeat and wrote a paper,in German.
I will try to upload it.

Well, a screech upon my arrival announced the presence of Scotsman, and a car park full of coaches... might try and get a picture later.

Have got video of FS now, plus a photo of Tornado on running-in turns. It's a lovely sunny day here at Wansford with cloudless blue skies: magnificent :)

No general public travel today (unless you are a Just Go passenger), but I believe platform tickets are available with both pacifics currently out and about :)

Isn't this the one originally imported for the SVR, till they found it wouldn't fit? There might be someone there who knows.

Hope you've had a safe journey - this looked like it was going to be the least crazy day at Wansford (coinciding with a day off) so I took the opportunity of going there for lunch and a few snaps. I really ought to explore the footpath adjacent to the line more - this was the first time I'd ventured beyond the bridge by the crossing.

Which way will Scotsman be facing over the weekend, towards Peterborough or Wansford?

    Scotsman currently facing West (Yarwell).

If people ''do' facebook there's a cracking shot of the A3 passing the A1 on the NVR main Facebook page.

...whilst Tornado is facing East but looking on the Facebook page it won't be running on Saturday (at least).
