Is there any chance of an update on Morayshire from one of you guys down there? Still hoping she makes the gala in November...

From what I saw the other week it's still a little way off. The boiler is nearly finished, but hasn't been tested. The frames have now been painted and are looking great back in green. Someone also mentioned that there might be an agreement for it to run at Llangollen for a bit next year to run it in before it heads back up to Scotland. Hope this helps!

Is it just the perspective or is 3802 paired with one of the larger GW tenders?

I heard the same over the weekend from someone. The overhaul is more expensive than first thought and to make up for the difference Llangollen railway would use it for XX days to cover for the shortfall.

The crown stays appear to be the current job. As far as I am aware the only running at Llangollen will be for testing purposes. The final painting is not part of our contract.

Unlikely to be the case - the locomotive will probably be run in at Llangollen but the plan has always been, and as far as I am aware still is, to bring the loco to Bo'ness for final painting and a public launch.

Any photos of the Shire's progress would also be most welcome!

The boiler is currently on a trolley in the works, with our boilersmiths tapping the threads for the crown stays. The remaining boiler work appears to consist of crown stays & tubes.

Just seen a picture on Facebook of 5337 from a few years back. Haven’t heard much about the loco recently, does anyone have an update please?

Yes, we pulled 5337 from traffic last year after discovering a firebox issue.
We had started to make plans and a schedule of work when our chairman and founder member suddenly passed away .
After a period of rejigging the company we have now decided to do a full boiler overhaul.
However as this one will more than likely be the last one the original team are involved in then we are taking our time and currently we expect to be back in traffic in the year 20??.

Thanks for the update John, much appreciated. Do you have many younger members in your group?

Not really Joe, the majority of us have been involved since the Barry days.
The long term future of the loco is something which is discussed by the directors at meetings.
