Timings are up for this one:

    http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U55442/2018/09/15/advanced (60mph, mistake on RTT?)

most unusually, for a DBC job, the ECS seems to be coming from Southall:

And this looks like the Deltic-hauled return:

Likewise Coach D. Sounds a bit "middle-of-the-train"-ish. But indications on RTT are that the whole formation will, in effect, be turned via a clockwise move over the High Level Bridge and then south to Tyne Yard, but returning direct to Platform 3 via the King Edward Bridge. Which with luck may mean that we enjoy a modest to decent soundtrack ("Number 9 Dream" perhaps??.....sorry!) in both directions. Paul Simon once sang "Everybody loves the sound of a train in the distance" but I'm really hoping that on this occasion the distance isn't going to be too distant for the sound to carry back to Coach D.

The Gooners will be kicking off at 3.00 pm, so given our rather leisurely schedule, most of any potential excitement will have died down by the time we arrive in Newcastle at 14.35. Could be a bit busier after the match, though.

Anyway, lots to look forward to with this outing, and especially UoSA's even hour schedule for the 62.5 miles northbound from Carlton Loop to York. And on the return, the 80 mph dash booked for Alycidon from York to Peterborough. Overall, I can't help but feel that the 4 hours 31 minutes transit to York/ 7 hours 40 minutes to Newcastle certainly helps to restate the case that the A1SLT have made so strongly in the past to establish the capability for running in a something-faster-than-75 mph path. But although a long day beckons, would anyone seriously argue that it won't be worth it?

Wish I was on it. An A4 and a Deltic is the perfect ECML combination IMO.

This would appear to be the ECS from Eastleigh to Southall where I guess No 9 will be attached and the whole lot dragged around to Kings Cross.

I may be wrong but looking at RTT it looks like the train will reverse(this involves a diesel on the back of the train into Newcastle)onto the King Edward with diesel leading across to King Edward E JN then after 18 mins No9 will lead to Tyne Yard.

Yes, looking at it again I think you are dead right to correct what now seems to be my hasty/ inaccurate interpretation of the RTT data for the movement from P2 at 14.48. Still, it will offer the opportunity to capture a decent image of UoSA (being towed) on the King Edward Bridge.

Isn't Walschaerts valve gear just poetry...?! Lots of whistles as she rolled into platform 4: lots of praise for the Nene Valley Railway from fellow passengers too for looking after Tornado and Flying Scotsman :)

And this time - I can hear the engine!!

60009 on Digswell Viaduct (kind if annoying as 30mins or so earlier the light conditions were so much better with no mist or cloud)
