Nah, that'd rely on there being sunlit uplands for it to run in ;)

I hesitate to join in the discussion of names, but I would remind everyone that only one V4 actually had a name. The second one had only an unofficial nickname, so why should the third one have an official name?

Because to be brutally honest, having a name makes it more sellable to those outside of the enthusiast fraternity and who which may form the majority of the funding in future.

    This.

The name is a big part of the sale I'm afraid.

Imagine the BBC report... loco 3404304003 or whatever its called....was at York today on its inaugural run...

Build it as an oil burner and you could gain a major sponsor by calling it KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN

That is a valid argument for a name, but the name need have no connection whatsoever to "Bantam Cock".

Absolutely valid. Tornado to the A1s and Prince of Wales to the P2s are tenuous links (in Tornado's case - no link) so of course the name will be up for debate.

Well, news media already mangle names by including the definite article...

Actually... given their successful reintroduction in the UK, how about Red Kite? Or again, given the media's propensity for erroneously including definite articles how about something that starts "The..."?

At least it'll stop me grinding my teeth!

I've heard from a reliable source that Mark Allatt is planning to launch a "V4 Name Club". Associate Membership will cost £20 and give you a vote for two names on the proposal list. Full Membership will cost £100 and will offer the chance to propose a name to be added to the list. The member who puts forward the winning name will also be invited to the naming ceremony with a high profile guest.
