Blimey - there's a "blast from the past"!!!

Spent many a day commuting to & from there - that fencing certainly wasn't there at the time!

Yep - that probably sums up Northern - and a few others!

Fine in the summer, but I doubt they'd be roof surfing come winter when the winds whipping in off the sea......

This is my paternal Grandfather he was a driver at 56A Wakefield, he started as a cleaner with the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway and stayed at Wakefield for his full career before retiring in about 1962/3. During his time at Wakefield I believe he became the local branch president of ASLEF. As a child I remember stories from him about having to send his fireman ahead to climb signal poles to see the aspect in pea souper fogs and taking the family off to Blackpool but as the driver or fireman of the train. He would then finish his duty at Blackpool to join the family on Holiday, at the end of the holiday he would book on again at Blackpool and crew the Loco back to Wakefield. His main steeds in later years were dub Dee 2-8-0s as Wakefield had about 75 of them, I imagine that he would have been proud to have known that I have fired and driven a Dud Dee but this time a 2-10-0. Much to my amazement I find that Bachmann do a model of the very Loco that he is pictured on.
