With our commercial mind maybe that will be volume 3!

Pete will be on the stall signing copies if you wish him to do so. I'll see you tomorrow morning!

Another excellent Members' Day on Saturday - And I did manage to get a signed copy of Pete's book... It's spot-on! I managed to part with £70 on the day, so it's a bit more in the kitty - I only wish I could afford to put much more in...
Good to catch up with you Gavin, and also good to learn that the difficulties the build has gone through are now hopefully in the past.

I did tentatively mention a trip "to Derbyshire" in a fortnight's time to the War Department, but was met with immediate suspicion! I'll have to see what I can do!

    Richard.

Excellent to see more progress Gav! Thank you for uploading the photos. At what stage is the excess material cut from the outer firebox wrapper plates to shape them to suit the profile of the throatplate?

Well HBSS have just shared some more images on their Facebook page. So I think the answer is between the two images being taken! Haha

Check out their Facebook page for more images.
These two are both HBSS images. Cheers

A Saint this year, Beachy Head next year, the Patriot year after? We are spoiled in railway preservation...

Sounds good! By the way, I take it that the "Saint" at Didcot is currently on hold as the 2999 website latest update is February 2018 so I guess nothing newsworthy has happened since then. Perhaps 2020 is a more realistic date? Pity.

Given they were reported as putting on final fittings and painting it last month in the rags I don’t think so. Likely to come out very soon I would say!

And you are forgetting 6880 next year also!

We are planning to have 5551 in steam by the end of next year so it's possible to have 4 by next year! Fantastic!

Yes its great times, but (in all modesty) it`s worth taken into consideration that none of this projects would have been possible without the tremendeous funding from steam enthusiasts like us.;) (and of course the fantastic team of volunteers who do the job)

I was under the impression that Pendennis Castle's boiler needs to come out again for testing prior to 'final' fitment?

I gain the impression that when a certain enthusiast magazine states that a loco is virtually complete and ready to steam, that is the kiss of death!

Boiler is looking good! Nice progress!

In days of yore, how did they make the outer wrapper out of one sheet?

Depends what you call newsworthy. According to the latest GWS echo they've almost finished boiler cladding. fitted new top feed trays, and all sorts of other bits and pieces, notably work on the superheater. Those who don't object to the site will find some very recent photos here. https://www.facebook.com/GWR3650/
