Well I'm not a moderator and in my opinion RalphW has got a very valid point. Maybe try referring to locomotives as either steam locos. or diesel locos.

Bit of a shame the latter, especially if the weather has broken and it's a proper steam run. Much as we love 35028, we really wanted to do the long way around with No.9. An A4 with 12 up on Brewham and Somerton both ways would have been seriously entertaining.

We wondered why this had taken so long to get noticed! A pity about the enforced 'dry weather restrictions' but we are where we are.

Does that allow No. 9 to work Tornado's S&C Golden Anniversary trains on 11th & 15th Aug?

Passionate pure steam fans, refer to diesels in far worse terms than just "box". Yes, it was progress and smoke free eventually became a legal requirement but diesels deprived us of our beloved steam locomotives on the mainline, ending in 1968 when many locomotives had many years of life left in them, especially the Standard classes. So, accept that "box" is here to stay. As kids, we used to reflect on the challenges of driving steam engines especially in fog and other adverse conditions. These drivers and firemen were heroes of the footplate. You and I with a little bit of training could hop onto a diesel and drive it off into the night. You can call a steam engine a kettle if you like. No one is going to be particularly offended,. So, accept that "box" is here to stay and nicely sums up what a diesel locomotive is, quite boring!

Possible I guess. No.9 is booked on the Dorset Coast Express on the 9th so would make a busy 3/4 days for the support crew.

Maybe in your head that is true but it would actually help were it not to be the 'go to' option for yourself and others, I suggest. Respect all round.

Just spoken to the TE booking office who confirm Sunday's train is "going with a diesel".

Probably makes it far more straightforward all round given that NR will not be allowing steam on its own.

Yeah, and we all know what happens when people who hold that view get themselves on a diesel locomotive on the mainline.

I dislike the terms box and kettle equally, as they are - more often then not - used as a way of winding others up. A bit of mutual respect wouldn't go amiss.

Unfortunately it isn't that clear cut operationally, but there was another reason.

All the best for the member of the support crew who ended up in hospital.

Indeed - diesel hauled or not that puts life into perspective. Here is hoping that the person concerned makes a full recovery and is soon assisting Clan Line out on the main line again.
