Yes I am an active volunteer
Am in Matlock at this very moment.
Toured the line from Buxton and its proposed extensions.
Lots of engineering to overcome and then maintain.
Rowesly South, what an enviable facility. So much land!!
Now the negative, so much discord and disharmony amongst the volunteers.

I could add my thoughts here, depends on what the discord and disharmony refers too, having been a volunteer for many many years I see both sides of most arguments, I’ve seen some great harmony from many different volunteers and departments as well as different views and thoughts as well, mind you that’s not unknown on many heritage lines I’ve known all who, have had similar both sides of a story tales, similar problems and such forth, please elaborate on the disharmony and discord further ,it’d be interesting to see what exactly the disharmony is .

Some Shunters related news this weekend as I’m not down babysitting and such
    Heritage Shunters Trust

Some news news regarding D9525....,copied from their Facebook post with permission,

“On Saturday 26th of May at around 17.30, D9525 had its maiden run. After some tweaking, welding moaning and groaning, we pulled the 14 outside our running shed, as when starting up we didn't want to blow the roof off! Needless to say it perfomed flawlessly and even pulled the 08 and some vans and a guardsvan up the bank. Infact it wasn't getting it to go but stopping it, It was like a young greyhound, thanks to Bob's strict maintenance/lubrication regime. We drove it up and down for an hour and I have to say it's a credit to our small band of loyal dedicated volunteers, So thanks go to Bob Grant, Dave Thompson, Gary Hibbs, Van Bramall, Matthew King, Shaun Doughty, Ian Goddard, Dave Shore, John Wade, Ralph Baines and Dave Hartley (For all his advice), plus anyone else involved who I may have forgot to mention. Its been a long nine? years, which has sadly seen Ian, the guy who saved it for our collection, pass away, and its transformation from a very tired, well worn machine into something we can all be truly proud off. I'm probably tempting fate here, but here goes; I am confident it will headline at our September Gala, there I have said it now so see you there!! (The photos below were all taken on the occasion mentioned above.) p.s Hopefully of course with its roundels and numbers on!”

And you cant mention Shunters without also linking to Mr Briddon’s collection at Darley Dale, for recent news regarding Rs8 and more.

66631CE0-12AE-4882-98A0-BA5425185436.jpeg Something totally different this week as with the missus being on her hols in Greece and me babysitting I wasn’t really going to get down this week and get anything really done, that said I did have a trip out to both the Bakewell model railway exhibition and the railway with my son for a ride out on Sunday so she could have a sleep, the members stall was at the exhibition and I also bumped into quite a few of the modellers from my own and local clubs who I know as well as one of our resident signallers whose layout Metteford ,is based upon Matlock and Rowsley shed all squashed into a couple of boards as can be accommodated,

I’ve popped a pic or two of them on , I also managed to chat to the HST gang who were fettling their platform staging up and working on some of the locos, Ben was busy making up some wooden patterns for letters for signalbox nameboards and other things we shall hopefully soon progress onto and the station toilets at Darley were being repainted by the Darley station gang.

Looking ahead there’s a few events upcoming such as the Lotus owners club meet on the 15th July and the Bus rally on the 23rd June at Rowsley, I also managed to chat with Roger about the upcoming behind the rowsley scenes day ,where we hope to have an open day for visitors to see the various groups around the site and what they do,it’s still early yet but we hope to have the class 37 and the blue peak outside the shed, with the owners available ,the main shed and the Hst display sheds open for viewing,a display on the turntable, the LMSCA with their recent works on the midland brake and medical coach and hopefully the Ashover light railway groups for viewing,I should be around the signalbox too to explain the works upon that, as with all things they are subject to change and things are in the final process of being finalised etcetera, so hopefully looks to be an interesting opportunity to see some of the behind the scenes goings,in fact the peak has been moved already for a spruce up and clean.

More details as soon as I can provide them.

The trail alongside the railway seems busy now with cyclists and walkers, moreso the walks through the fields too,all we need now is the missing bit completing between Bakewell and Rowsley.

Seen in today's Matlock Mercury - meeting to discuss opening the line from Matlock to Peak Forest

Interesting comment is that they are still undertaking research around the tender yet in March it was a few weeks away from being advertised

Others will know more details than me but I understand the small prairie bogie wheels and/or axleboxes are being done and a boilersmith is working on the boiler. One cab of the 25 has had a lot of welding done, major components are in place, rewiring needed and other cab overhaul. Class 46 after the 25. The 66xx has been painted black to smarten it up.

If you come along to the Behind the Scenes day on 1 July there will be guided tours of the loco shed, something folk have wanted for a long time.

Indeed yes, quite a Bit behind the scenes work goes on, I’m rarely not busy when I’m down the line and occasionally get round to folks to see what progress there is and can appreciate like most icebergs lots goes on in the workshops without anyone really seeing much outside, but the class 25 has indeed had a lot of bodywork repairs done, the one end to start with before moving onto the other end, including a lot of electrical work and pipework under the cabs, the radiators had all been out, overhauled and replaced, tested and such, new seals ,gaskets, etcetera, and the radiator fan and motor put back in,electrical work on that Is underway, I’m not that au fait on steam locos but the prairie has been jacked up and the wheels, motions etcetera repaired or sent for repairs as previously noted, the boilers outside from several locos are being worked on, There is an open day on 1st July and the shed is planned to be open and at least one of the engineers on the restoration there to ask questions off, also a turntable display, the Heritage Shunters Trust,LMSCA sheds open and hopefully the Ashover light railway folks too, il be round at the signalbox at the entrance too, details should be out soon ,hoping to see you there,

In the latest old glory there’s an article on the locos of Falmouth docks.
It states that one of the survivors is fully overhauled and is at PR? Is that the case? Never seen pictures of it running there?
