A lovely sight and sound as 'Leander' heads today's 'Fellsman' through Bay Horse Mick Kelly driving, Bob Bullock firing and Roly Parker Guard

    Fellsman 2b (3).jpg

LMS 5XP Class 4-6-0 No. 45690 'Leander' crossing the River Ribble with the northbound 'Fellsman' to Carlisle later to fall victim to steaming problems

After a lovely bright afternoon dark heavy cloud gathered over the fells about an hour beforeThe Fellsman was due. Then, about 10 minutes early this combination chuffed round the bend.

Could have been worse I suppose. At least the 47 wasn't maroon. IMG_8924-fbook.jpg

Was it "steaming problems" or possible "fire risk" ?

Indeed, not quite the little helper Statesman and customers will want to see again but at least the Thunderbird was a Patriot

This was the same injector that was allegedly being a problem last week. Leander blew off repeatedly when stationary at Appleby - full boiler and full pressure or difficulty getting water in with the regulator closed? (or something else)?

So, a bit of a grunt northbound, though for me the reported steaming issues did play it's part and were most noticeable at Helwith and at Blea Moor in Steve's video. Enjoy :)

I can't understand the photting enthusiasts on here who turn their back on a WCRC train when it's not steam hauled Where are the pics of the Fellsman return which West Coast did all in their power to run after steam failure,Seems like there are some hypocrites on here who just want everything in their favour.

There's one a bit higher up this page. Here it is again. Nothing hypocritical of wanting things to go well, by the way.
