How were you thinking that the Kyle loco would be getting to Inverness in the first place?

I thought the plan was for the Kyle loco to double head with 60009 up the Highland Main Line the day before...? At least, that's what the RTC website said the last time I checked it!

It's just me misunderstanding what you were saying about the Kyle timings and you linking it to the first Black 5 haulage of the trip. Yes, the Kyle loco will double head with whatever else is going to Inverness. You recall that last year 60009 was out of gauge. So what has changed?

I can’t imagine a lot. I can’t go back and find the GBX thread but if my memory serves me correct (I stand to be corrected after a bloody long day!), it was either of Messrs Shuttleworth and Riley who said it was a weight/axle loading issue on the A4. Work needs/needed to be done for the Mk5 sleeper stock when it works to inverness in the future, so has this been completed yet that may allow an A4 to go over the route?

Could it be 2x Black 5s?? Or the K1, which did rather well...? Time will tell!

Wonder if that attitude from the powers may result in a bit of egg on face in future. Don't bite the hand that rescues you, if to alter the phrasing.....

Please keep your Tracey Island staff on stand-by Ian. Even the powers that be occasionally have to rely on those who are really in the know.

Going by previous years I find it a little strange that RTC have said this but hey ho, let's see what develops as I think we all know which way this is going to go.....

Perhaps one should assume for a change that everything is in place apart from a few loose ends...like the absence of a locomotive for Kyle and an outstanding query over exactly where 60009 will now be allowed to go.......

is 31806 still down as working Yeovil to Weymouth, she hasn't as far as i know even had a light engine, or loaded test run on NR yet.

Heard that this Friday had been proposed for a loaded test run but it was postponed apparently. Have no further information.
Regarding a light engine main line run, perhaps this might not be required with the mileage she's accrued at Swanage.
Anyway, whenever it happens, let's hope she'll sustain going above 25 mph for the first time in many years.

My understanding as well although I had heard the original plan was for Thursday not Good Friday, but now is after Easter some time.
I would assume a mainline test is mandatory to confirm all the safety stuff works (TPWS etc) and to prove it at more than 25mph. Every other mainline approved loco seems to have one, even after an overhaul, let alone for the first time out on the mainline.

As 31806 is very simular to 31625 i would think she will have a 60 mph limit , where as if it had been the N class as originally planned as it has smaller driving wheels would that have been limited to 50 ?
