So why does your Cl.33 have miniature snow ploughs, then?;)

Good point although the ploughs are about 10 inches above snow!! I think they are cosmetic to make the 'face' of the Type 3 prettier?!!

I recall one sunday I was on booking office duty in Alresford and could get no nearer than Preston Candover and only narrowly escaped getting stuck.About a foot of snow. Around 1978 I think

I find it intriguing that trains seemingly stop running at the slightest snowfall yet the big railway rulebook allows normal working until snow is 8" above rail level.
    upload_2018-3-18_19-37-15.png

OK, the height of snow may be the least of the problems to be overcome; blocked points, for one, staffing problems for another, but the rules are fairly relaxed on the issue of snow.

    Eastleigh West Jn.

It's not asnow plough as it's just a sheet of glass fibre, but it keeps crushed pheasant/wood pigeon out of the front bogie!

    Cheers, Neil

    Doesn't help with couplings though!

(Seen at Salisbury a while back - a high tech way of cleaning a coupling before coupling up the two units for a London service).

That's the problem with those couplers. The slightest bit of dirt in the wrong place and they either don't couple or if they do, they don't get electrical continuity. The amount of pheasants that have caused problems in the past is more than I'd care to mention. What astounds me though is since the new operator has come in, the units are running around in the snow without their "condoms" on. Due to the build up of snow and ice, the number of failed connections is crazy. Even GWR have their couplings bagged up!

Any progress on getting more of the locos/rolling stock at MHR under cover? Would certainly help in weather like this

The latest edition of the Mid Hants news arrived on the mat today. An interesting read. I see that the big Green Loco with German Smoke Deflectors has been requested for a possible Gala visit this year. Is this still in consideration or will it be another year now? I thought the schedule for the loco had been released for this year?

Can anyone advise locos for this Sat? Booked on the RAT & may go down a bit earlier depending on locos etc.

IIRC you throw your name in the hat & cross your fingers & they divvy it up between north & south locations, and leave the latter part of the season to be announced should anything untoward befall 60103.......
