Here is a Couple of Photo's of the Cavan and Leitrim Rly in the Winter of 1946-1947 when it Snowed and the Railway was the only way to get to Ballinamore.
the Roads were blocked. The Snow was over 12ft high and they had to dig out the Railway from the Snow Drifts, Snow 1946-1947.jpg Snow 1946- 1947.jpg [ATTACH

@Avonside2 I bet it's 'interesting' trying to drive over the bridge into (and out of) your station at the moment!

Super piccies btw - Thanks for posting them. Do you still practise the ancient Irish art of wrapping your water column with straw during this kind of weather?

Has anybody got any information as to what the status of "Lady Edith" is now - Is it actually going to return to Ireland from the USA?
I've noticed that mention of it has cropped up recently on one of the US Forums, particularly as the site in New Jersey that it resides at appears to be suffering from some significant problems.......

Presumably the taxation demands by the US Authorities at the time may have affected the previous attempt?

i don't know. The only thing I heard is that the sale of the rolling stock had to go ahead before they'd sell the loco. No idea if it's true

T&D, two years on since my photos up-thread. At least the shed appears to be secure; that’s about the only positive point that I can see. Taken yesterday.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

Such a shame. I think the group are still attempting to reopen this line? Or is this no longer the case.

This reminded me that my Great Uncle wrapped the Water Pump outside his cottage in straw - resulted in lots of pictures being taken by tourists. He left the straw on all year though. This was in County Antrim not far from the Ballycastle Railway.

    What a shame.
I was watching the Michael Palin railway journey through Ireland programme a couple of weeks ago. This line was a flourishing concern back then. As I understand it, the council has turned down offers of help from those with preservation experience (albeit the GB and Irish contexts are quite different).
With the Giants Causeway line having gone non-steam as well, it's been a bit backwards for Irish narrow gauge.
At least the C&L and West Clare have some good recent developments.
