One thing I've been wondering the past few days, does anybody know from how far afield SVR volunteers travel to the line? I think I remember being told they have coaches converted to volunteer accommodation at Bewdley or somewhere like that, and was curious as to whether there were people who lived a few hours drive away and came for a weekend at a time a few times a year, or something like that?

    WHY INDEED.

They do it because they haven't been bought up to respect anybody or anything. They do it because they lack judgement and intelligence. They do it because nobody taught them the difference between right and wrong. They do it because if bye chance they were caught the 'punishment' would be worn as a badge of honour. They particularly do it because they are worthless, brainless scum.

There are many more reasons, but I am sure you all get the point.

    Seasons Greetings.

Volunteers come from many points of the UK compass including Scotland, Devon, Essex, Lancashire and many other counties. There is volunteer accommodation at Bridgnorth, Bewdley, Kidderminster & Arley. Until recently there was also accommodation at Hampton Loade though I'm unsure of the current position. Quite a few folk go for the weekend or for several days so there is also a social aspect to volunteering.

Accommodation at Bridgnorth is set to benefit form the forthcoming improvements there.

They also perhaps do it because the press gives the encouraging oxygen of publicity to vandals such as banksy!!

It's also a bit sad to feel relieved that it was 'only' graffiti, not arson etc.

Some footage from New Years Eve late afternoon/eve. Includes 7812s last run southbound and northbound, 1501, 34027, 7714 and the DMU (presumably on a test run with a tail load).

Turning to the current few weeks of shutdown on the SVR, does anyone happen to know if there is a track relaying project this year? That is apart from the work required at the "county boundary" slip, where around four lengths are to be lifted to remove and improve the ballast base.
I cannot see any mention on the SVR related websites of further closed season work, hence the request here.

(Social media has an image of the class 33 diesel at Highley yesterday with ballast wagons, so presumably the job mentioned above is underway)

    Thanks

I believe there is to be a relay between Bewdley and Kidderminster, but I don't know where. I was there on Saturday, doing a shunt with the Ruston and was informed the line was in Engineers Possession, but nothing had been taken up yet.

    Regards,

Thanks jtx. I guess it might be somewhere on the KDR side of the tunnel, the p-way up to and through the tunnel was relaid in the recent past, although perhaps not as far down as the Safari Park embankment and the Bewdley viaducts.

The arrival off 40135 from the east lancs railway for 2 years meaning that it can steam heat trains so be used at any time off the year. I guess this is being used as insurance against steam failures in the early part of the year a good move as i am guessing this is going to be a lot cheaper than quick hires like the class 4 tank to cover shortages

Also an alternative to the DMU.
