    Current removal of the tubes from GW 2885's boiler prompts the question how many BR era sets of boiler tubes remain in situ (outside museums)? There can't be many ex Barry boilers still to be stripped.

    Wasn't Didcot's 6697 still running on its B.R. fitted tubes until a superheater flue failed? AFAIK its not steamed since so still has them.

    Might be GWR Lode Star as it was withdrawn in 1951, so it might have been retubed in BR days or the tubes could be GWR ones.

    No, they've gone. The originals were (as I recall) copper and were stripped in early days as too valuable. So the boiler consists of the shell, with the tube plates showing the tube layout, and the back plate to the firebox, but the tubes and the copper jacket to the firebox are long gone.

    A more interesting question would be which was the last set of ex-BR-fitted boiler tubes still in use. I believe the Mid Hants returned at least one loco to steam with ex-BR tubes (because their replacement was recorded in a Mid-Hants news) but were there any others?
