You probably wouldn't be able to see it for all the smoke! The normal rules of good firing can't be applied to these locos!

Just had a nosey at the timetable and noticed that services cease at the end of October until the Santas start... now obviously people need a break and the S&T and p/way people need time to do essential work... but I would have thought that Goth Weekend ( which is after Halloween for a change) would decently fill a couple of trains out of Whitby...

More likely to fill trains into Whitby as people flock in to see the sights! I know what you mean, though. I once took some friends to Whitby not knowing it was a Goth W/E. The place was so crowded you could lift your feet off the ground and you wouldn't have fallen down. I still remember the pretty blonde girl in pink basque, suspenders and stockings having her picture taken in the graveyard by all and sundry!

All aboard the Steam-punk Express !... but even a Park and Ride DMU would be worth putting on ?.
Perhaps Bean Counter can suggest that isn't the case...

    Anyway this weekend is
    https://www.nymr.co.uk/Event/wartime

Yesterday afternoon the masses started descending with various bits of military equipment.
At least 4 jeeps seen on the road heading to Pickering.

Could be a thought. Even if they only run a Whitby-Goathland short, rather than whole line. Playing on the Heartbeat/Harry Potter angle. Give folks a "taster" for the line, what with the Whitby-Grosmont section being relatively flat, compared to the Grosmont-Goathland section with it's in places 1 in 49 gradients.

Mind you, you could always pay up the supernatural angle. Call the service "The Goathland Gytrash." Maybe even use that 'haunted' coach from the teak set.

Haertbeat - some would n't admit to even having one what with being undead and all that
    Likely to have a sentimental/romantic past-centric outlook ?
but your kind of missing the point, if the Town is busy travelling in from outside is handy for sightseers when the Car parks are full of Hearses and Batmobiles
Or if you are there for the weekend its something else to do...

Wouldn't honestly know off hand. Though there's no harm in playing that card as some might. When not out there doing their Goth thing......

As I intimated earlier I expect it will be traffic into Whitby rather than out. The idea of a dmu is a non starter as it can't go there.

You're only as old as the woman you feel.

I guess that makes me old but don't tell SWMBO!

    Goathland, Easter 1970.

I've been looking through some old stuff. 'Salmon' and 'Mirvale' on 28th March 1970. Cold, damp and sleety weather. Those two young blokes in the second shot will be knocking on a bit now. 27a-'Salmon'-fbook.jpg 16a-'Mirvale'-fbook.jpg

Fraternal greetings from Derbyshire. The Barclay 0-4-0st Henry Ellison was inspected in steam at Wirksworth on Monday and is now sitting on the departure road ready for loading. Nice pictures; I remember first visiting the NYMR in around 1972 when trains were not running.
