Quite a nice mix of engines all round there. In particular the Western region visitors should be impressive to see first hand.

Have to also acknowledge the high standard and excellent updates coming from the MPD at Grosmont with regards to some of the work being done on the locomotive fleet there. Really does look like some really excellent work is being done and high standards maintained on a very active locomotive fleet that has hard work to do given the route. Some of the pictures of the overhaul of engines and captions on the groups Facebook page shows the detailed work done behind the scenes to keep the railway running and satisfy both the public and enthusiasts alike. While one engine is not my personal favourite, its getting some excellent attention and I'm sure will be welcomed by many here, when it returns. Meanwhile I hope for NELPGs Q6 and J27 to be returning soon too.

Coming down for this on Friday, really looking forward to it, as per usual.

Any chance of a Spring Gala next year or are the NYMR looking to hire in another big name loco for running in March again?

The 2 GW Panniers arrived at Newbridge this morning.
Both facing North but I am sure someone will change that before long.

I think you will find the Spring gala has been consigned to history. The autumn steam gala has been renamed the annual steam gala and is advertised as such on the Moors website.

The two panniers are looking good. As visiting engines they will be nice to see, but then again these are off region engines that are a good design.

So if everything else is facing South as well, I doubt that there will be any interest South of Summit as per usual.

The railway is 18 miles long and the gradients run both ways.
Meaning that action steam shots can be found along the whole line not just from Grosmont to Summit. Which is what? - 5 - 5 1/2 miles out of 18.

You'll have to pay through the nose to get on a charter, if you wan't the northbound shots.

problem with north facing apart from the railways preference, you end up in the middle of nowhere above Levisham, which is no good for railway revenue or any one else, its to remote.

Oh, I don't know. Levisham to Newtondale Halt is a very pleasant, easy walk if you take the old forest drive, and there are many locations en route at which it is possible to get good quality shots of passing trains from safe and legal vantage points. Besides which, Newtondale Halt is probably the only place in the country where it is possible to flag down an A4.
